In short
- Amazon's UK guidance describes typical FBA liquidation gross recovery of 5–10% of product value and net payment usually within 90 days. Those are programme estimates, not a guaranteed offer; compare your actual net outcome with the remaining costs and work of removing stock for resale.
- Liquidation moves eligible inventory to wholesale recovery. It is different from getting the goods back and selling individual units through your own shop.
- Once a liquidation order is confirmed, the official creation guidance says you cannot cancel it. Finish your eligibility and cost decision before confirmation.
- If you hold both UK and EU stock, the automated liquidation settings need separate updates. A change for one region does not complete the other.
- AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.
The original retail value of your returned FBA stock looks substantial, but the units are no longer being sold as new. Your dashboard offers liquidation or return to seller. A wholesale recovery percentage may look disappointing beside the old retail price, while your own resale plan may look attractive because its handling costs have not yet been entered. To choose sensibly, compare two complete next steps. This article is for the UK FBA seller disposing of their own eligible stock, rather than a business looking to buy mystery boxes or customer-return pallets.
What are you choosing when you submit a liquidation order?
The official UK FBA Liquidations explanation describes a recovery route for surplus and customer-returned inventory. The product goes through a wholesale recovery process. You are not commissioning a new individual retail listing with your own photographs and condition description. Decide whether that wholesale route matches what you want to do with the stock before comparing expected money.
Start with the units actually available in your account. Match the stock reference and quantity to the proposed order. Your historical purchase quantity is not a current liquidation quantity, and the model's original product listing does not prove each returned unit is eligible. Record what is selected now, what remains outside the selection and why. This creates an understandable decision record if some of the intended inventory later follows a different route.
The same official UK explanation lists excluded categories and conditions, including dangerous goods, recalled inventory and expired or defective items. Treat eligibility as a real input, not an inconvenience to solve by changing the name of the goods. If a returned unit needs a safety decision or has been identified as defective, resolve the correct route for that condition. Wholesale recovery is not a blanket outlet for everything in the unfulfillable list.
Why is gross recovery different from money you receive?
The headline recovery estimate describes gross value, before programme deductions. Amazon's UK explanation identifies a processing fee linked to item characteristics and a liquidation referral fee of 15% of gross recovery. Your expected net payment must reflect both. Use the account's current calculation for the actual item rather than applying a single assumed handling amount to every stock size. A large unit and a small unit need not produce the same result from the same percentage.
A percentage calculation can illustrate the distinction without inventing a price: after a deduction of fifteen percent of gross recovery, eighty-five percent remains before the processing charge. That is eighty-five percent of the recovery, not of the original retail value. Put those two bases in separate columns. Otherwise a sheet can appear to recover most of the old selling price when it is actually retaining most of a much smaller wholesale recovery figure.
The original retail price is also not necessarily the price you could achieve yourself for the returned unit. Its condition, missing accessories and sale channel may change the offer. Use supported expectations from your own actual stock assessment and selling records. Do not count an untested product as a fully functional retail unit merely because that was its condition when you first sent it into FBA. The route comparison begins with the product you now have.
Which decision needs to be complete before confirmation?
The official instructions for creating liquidation orders state that confirmed liquidation orders cannot be cancelled. That makes confirmation the end of your comparison, rather than the start of an experiment you intend to reverse later. Verify the selected units, current costs and chosen recovery route first. Keep the decision and order reference together so the person responsible for stock can distinguish intention from execution.
The creation guidance also notes that Amazon may cancel an order when a suitable buyer cannot be arranged, and that demand and capacity affect availability. Your inability to reverse a confirmed order and Amazon's ability to cancel an unfulfilled process are different matters. Do not treat submission as guaranteed recovery. Track the actual outcome and hold a defined next action for inventory that is not successfully liquidated.
| State you can confirm | Decision still required | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Eligible units selected, order not confirmed | Liquidation versus an achievable removal plan | Selected stock and comparable remaining costs |
| Confirmed liquidation order | Monitor the actual process | Order reference, selected units and status changes |
| Units not accepted or order cancelled by Amazon | Choose an available next route | Reason, remaining quantity and new responsible action |
| Recovery recorded but not yet paid | Reconcile the receivable and payment timing | Gross recovery, deductions and payment reference |
| Returned-to-seller units physically received | Approve each new resale offer | Received identity, condition, work and saleable set |
Do your UK and EU automatic settings say the same thing?
Amazon's creation guidance explicitly says automated settings for the UK and EU require two updates. If you operate in both regions, review each actual configuration. Do not assume that changing your UK preference changes an EU stock location as well. Record the region, chosen setting and review date. This is particularly useful when more than one person manages inventory and one believes a previous colleague already completed the configuration.
Review the fallback as carefully as the preferred option. The same guidance describes unsuccessful automatic liquidation flowing to the next configured stage, such as return to seller or disposal. A fallback that suited last season's assortment may not suit the current returned products. Read the actual settings rather than guessing from the name of the preferred programme. The final destination is part of the decision you are making about your goods.
How should you compare liquidation with your own resale?
Write the two alternatives at the same point in time. For liquidation, use expected net recovery after the relevant programme deductions. For removal, start with the realistic resale proceeds and deduct the still-required removal, receiving, examination, preparation, channel and dispatch costs. Leave the earlier purchase and first-sale history visible in your overall accounts, but do not charge that same past cost to only one of the two next-step options.
Ask whether the removal plan can actually be carried out. You need a receiving address, someone responsible for the contents and a sale channel that permits the intended condition. Some units may need specialist attention or replacement parts before an offer is credible. If those inputs are unknown, list them as open costs and open work. Choosing removal does not turn every returned unit into immediately saleable inventory.
For a small new customer parcel prepared through AirPost, the component from the constants checked on 14 October 2026 is €2.25 recommended sender fee plus €0.85 platform fee, totalling €3.10 before carrier label and other costs. Two separate new orders would have €6.20 of this component. These are euro-denominated components, not UK pound carrier quotes. Put the actual billing currency and conversion into your own comparison; do not subtract euro figures directly from pound resale proceeds.
The arithmetic prices the later outbound preparation component, not the FBA removal shipment, return assessment or a specialist repair. Obtain those figures for your actual plan. The guide to returns without a warehouse explains how to organise a receiving location. For technical stock, the separate laptop preparation article shows why a received device can still have unresolved work before resale.
AirPost's local fulfilment page describes agreed storage and dispatch work with a sender. It does not create a liquidation buyer or a guaranteed resale channel. If you choose removal, arrange that physical handover before relying on a local dispatch plan. Give the sender released product references and exact packing instructions, while the shop retains the responsibility for the condition offered to the next buyer.
How do you know the recovery decision is finished?
Do not mark the task complete solely because an order number exists. Track selected quantity, actual completed movements, cancelled or unresolved quantity and financial outcome. Keep the current order status separate from the payment state. Amazon's usual payment timing is a planning reference, not a promise that every order becomes cash by a particular date. A stock decision can be operationally progressed while the related receivable still needs reconciliation.
Download the relevant current order and payment records from Seller Central and match their identifiers. Record gross recovery, fees and final net payment without turning an estimate into received money. If your own worksheet contains a status such as expected, retain it until the account shows the completed financial event. When only part of the selected inventory proceeds, leave the remainder visible rather than adjusting the original selection to make the result appear fully completed.
For a removal route, close the equivalent record only when the actual received stock and its next decision are known. Some units may be released, others still held and others unsuitable for your intended offer. Compare the completed result with your initial estimate. That review tells you which product groups deserve closer examination next time. It also keeps a disappointing retail experiment from being recorded as a successful recovery simply because the goods left Amazon's warehouse.
Frequently asked questions
How does the Amazon liquidation programme work for UK sellers?
It is a recovery route for eligible own FBA stock through wholesale liquidation. It differs from returning the inventory to yourself and making individual resale offers. Check eligibility and the account's current costs before confirming.
How much do I get from Amazon liquidation?
The official UK explanation gives a typical gross recovery range, not a binding offer. Deduct the actual referral and processing fees, and use the recorded outcome for your accounts. Original retail value is a different figure.
Can I cancel an Amazon liquidation order?
The official creation guidance says confirmed orders cannot be cancelled. Complete the comparison before confirmation. Amazon may itself cancel an order if the process cannot be completed, which is a separate situation.
Does the UK liquidation setting cover my EU stock?
No. The guidance requires separate updates for UK and EU automated settings. Check both regions and the fallback route where you actually hold stock.
Is liquidation better than getting returns back?
Compare actual expected net recovery with achievable resale proceeds after all remaining removal and resale costs. A receiving location alone does not establish saleability or a buyer. Choose the route your stock and available work support.
