An Post Christmas posting dates 2026 for Irish shop orders

An Post’s checked timetable still covers 2025. Separate Irish parcels, Northern Ireland, GB exports and letters before setting your shop’s Christmas cutoff.

In short

  • An Post’s last-postal-dates page checked on 14 October 2026 is still headed Christmas 2025, so it does not confirm a 2026 merchandise deadline. The older page moved Ireland and UK Standard parcel posting to 16 December 2025, three days earlier than planned; do not reuse that date for this year.
  • A later deadline for letters does not extend your parcel deadline. Match the service row to the merchandise shipment you actually buy.
  • Keep Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain orders separate. The transport timetable and required export preparation are different checks.
  • A missed delivery can leave a gift awaiting collection. Include recipient readiness in your customer message instead of equating a delivery attempt with possession.
  • AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.

An Irish shop can sell the same gift to Dublin, Belfast and Manchester on the same morning, but those orders should not share one undifferentiated Christmas release rule. Their parcel services, destinations and paperwork may differ. A decorative card inside a box does not turn the goods into letter post. Start with the actual merchandise shipment, then decide what must be completed before handover. That gives your shop a practical cutoff even while the applicable seasonal dates are awaiting confirmation.

Why is a search for 2026 still showing an older An Post timetable?

The official last-postal-dates page has a 2025 heading at the time of checking. It includes a peak update advancing the parcel date, while retaining separate rows for letters and international services. Its presence in a fresh search result does not change the year. Check the text beside the schedule, including amendments, rather than selecting the latest-looking date in a snippet. Your shipping account may also have instructions specific to its collection arrangement.

The page’s earlier amendment is useful evidence that a published seasonal plan can change. Give one person responsibility for reviewing your applicable service information during the campaign. Store the source year, check date and account scope with the resulting shop rule. If a carrier updates a deadline after you launch your gift promotion, reassess unfulfilled orders and future sales separately. Orders already accepted need a concrete decision; changing tomorrow’s banner does not explain today’s exception.

Which timetable row applies to gifts sold by a webshop?

Choose the row for the service used by the finished goods shipment. In the older table, Standard letters to the Republic of Ireland had a later date than Standard parcels. The table also separates Northern Ireland, Great Britain and the rest of Europe. These differences mean that a generic statement such as “An Post accepts Christmas mail until the final week” is insufficient for a shop selling boxed merchandise. Check the new product-specific row when the 2026 schedule becomes available.

Maintain a separate campaign for printed greetings if you send them independently of products. It may use a different service and deadline, so its preparation cannot be pooled blindly with the parcel batch. If you put a greeting into a merchandise box, keep the shipment under the selected goods product. Ask about eligibility for unusually small items rather than assuming that anything fitting an envelope qualifies for the seasonal letter row. The booking and finished packaging should agree.

What must be ready before a Great Britain order can leave?

An Post’s international sending guidance requires a corresponding CN23 label for goods of any size or value sent to non-EU countries, including Great Britain. It describes electronic customs data supplied online or at the post office and warns that insufficient data can lead to return if the receiving customs authority rejects the item. Prepare those details before the final batch reaches the counter. An early postage purchase does not complete missing content information.

Use the actual products in the box to prepare descriptions, quantities, net weights and values. A Christmas campaign name is not a useful description of the contents. A sale remains a sale even if the customer gives the item to somebody else. Keep the invoice information and the order reference available to the person preparing the shipment. If the gift recipient differs from the buyer, check whose details belong in each required field rather than copying the billing record everywhere.

Resolve data errors while the parcel can still be changed. Your packer can verify quantities and the box label, but may not know a product’s origin or the commercial information needed for export. Decide who supplies those facts and who approves corrections. For a shop using Irish stock supplied from Britain, the replenishment has its own import movement; the existing guide to UK-to-Ireland customs documents covers that separate direction.

Do EU goods orders need preparation even without the GB customs route?

The same official sending guidance says that an Aviation Security Declaration must accompany letters, packets or parcels containing goods sent within the EU, excluding Northern Ireland. Do not assume that an EU destination means there is no shipment documentation to prepare. Check the selected postal service and permitted contents. Keep this requirement separate from the CN23 process for non-EU goods so the person closing the box receives the instruction for the actual destination.

Make a destination-specific pack card for each service your shop uses. Include the document check and who can answer a question about the contents. Test it with a completed order before your final campaign batch. The goal is that the person at handover can recognise a missing requirement without reopening every package. Avoid using one generic “international” pile when its parcels need different data. A correct domestic box is not automatically a ready international shipment.

Can post-office opening hours replace the last posting date?

An Post publishes Christmas post-office hours separately from its collection and delivery calendar. The pages checked for this article still describe the previous Christmas season. Treat both as awaiting their relevant 2026 information. A branch being accessible only establishes a possible counter visit; it does not by itself confirm that the selected parcel service can meet the seasonal delivery deadline.

Check the branch you actually plan to use and the product it can accept. The older seasonal page notes that International Courier Service is offered only at selected post offices. A general map pin cannot establish that option for your final foreign order. Confirm the suitable location before promising an upgrade, and allow time for the counter process. If another person makes the trip, give them the complete service instruction rather than simply telling them to buy whatever is fastest.

What happens if the recipient misses a Christmas delivery?

An Post’s Christmas support page lists holding periods after missed delivery: five working days for Standard and Express Post, three for Registered Post, and sixteen for an item received from abroad. These are retention periods for the described situation, not extra festive delivery days. Follow the item’s notice and current tracking. A recipient away over Christmas may need different instructions from somebody available at the delivery address.

Give the buyer a usable way to follow the shipment and explain who should act if collection is required. If a gift goes directly to another person, check that the recipient can receive the necessary information without exposing inappropriate purchase details. Keep the return address legible and correct. Your support team should distinguish a parcel awaiting collection, one with a failed delivery attempt and one still at the packing location. They require different next actions and different messages.

How much preparation budget should you reserve for the final Irish batch?

Consider an illustrative batch of 20 small parcels prepared through AirPost. If your agreed sender fee equals the suggested small-parcel amount of €2.25, preparation totals €45.00. The platform fees are 20 × €0.85 = €17.00, giving €62.00 before shipping labels, materials and other agreed work. The price logic was checked on 14 October 2026; the parcel count is hypothetical.

That calculation quotes no An Post tariff and buys no extra posting window. Confirm the actual label service and route before purchase. Export preparation may require work beyond your normal packing agreement, so agree it explicitly rather than assuming it is included. Compare a service upgrade with the actual alternative price you can obtain. If you have already bought a label, check the displayed cancellation conditions before buying another one for the same box.

When does holding Irish stock help your Christmas orders?

Irish stock can support a domestic customer-parcel route when that stock has arrived, been counted and is ready to sell. It does not remove the inbound replenishment or manufacture a carrier deadline. The workflow for local fulfilment through AirPost places products with a sender who prepares and hands over orders. Confirm availability around the holiday and the actual service offered. Use the guide to selling from Irish stock without a warehouse when considering that arrangement.

  1. Count the stock already present

Confirm each gift variant and reserve what can actually be packed. Keep expected replenishments outside the confirmed local quantity.

  2. Separate the destinations

Use distinct release rules for Ireland, Northern Ireland, Great Britain and other destinations. Match each to its goods service.

  3. Finish documents before the last batch

Resolve descriptions, quantities and the requirements of the route. Give the sender a complete, approved shipment instruction.

  4. Confirm current-year handover

Check the seasonal publication and the actual counter or collection arrangement. Then calculate your shop’s earlier order cutoff.

  5. Update the promise after cutoff

Change product, checkout and confirmation wording together. Review outstanding exceptions individually instead of treating every order as dispatched.

Frequently asked questions

Are An Post Christmas posting dates 2026 confirmed?

The last-postal-dates page checked on 14 October still has a 2025 heading. It does not establish the 2026 goods deadline for your shop.

Can I use the Christmas letter deadline for my gift parcel?

Use the purchased merchandise service. The older schedule has different rows for letters and parcels; a greeting inside the box does not change that product.

Do An Post Christmas dates for Northern Ireland and Great Britain mean the same thing?

Keep their destination rows separate and check the requirements for the actual goods route. An Post’s non-EU sending guidance specifically includes Great Britain.

Does an open post office mean my order can still arrive before Christmas?

Opening hours, outgoing service and the seasonal deadline are separate checks. Confirm all of them for the branch and product you intend to use.

How should I handle a gift awaiting collection?

Use its tracking and collection notice, give the recipient the information needed to act, and distinguish retention from a promise of delivery before Christmas.
