In short
- Canada Post lists 4 small business savings levels, with annual shipping-spend thresholds at C$2,500, C$5,000 and C$7,500. On 14 October 2026, qualifying members can also receive temporary Level 4 pricing under an offer ending 31 December 2026, so check your account before assuming the normal spend band determines today’s quote.
- Discount percentages are advertised maxima for particular services. They are not a flat reduction on every parcel or the entire invoice.
- Check the purchasing channel, parcel measurements and account number together. A rate you saw at the counter may differ from the rate offered online.
- Keep your underlying savings level separate from the temporary offer when budgeting for orders shipped after the offer ends.
- AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.
A small business card does not tell you what your next order will cost to ship. It identifies a program account, while the price also depends on the service, route and packed parcel. The practical question for your Canadian store is which pricing basis your account receives today and what may change later. Start with that distinction before turning a headline discount into a checkout promise. The sources and domestic AirPost price observation below were checked on 14 October 2026.
Which yearly shipping-spend band normally applies to my store?
The Canada Post shipping-discounts page publishes these normal annual-spend bands. Its footnote says levels are adjusted quarterly using the preceding 12 months of shipping spend; businesses with less than a year in the program are assessed using spend to date. This is a shipping-spend test, not a test of your webshop’s sales revenue or the number of products in your catalog.
| Normal level | Published annual shipping spend | Channel shown in the standard discount table |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | C$0–C$2,499 | Online / Post Office |
| Level 2 | C$2,500–C$4,999 | Online |
| Level 3 | C$5,000–C$7,499 | Online |
| Level 4 | C$7,500+ | Online |
Use your account’s recorded shipping spend when checking these boundaries. Adding sales tax collected from customers, packaging purchases or a marketplace’s total sales report would answer a different question. If postage is bought through several tools, first identify which purchases actually use your Solutions for Small Business account. A tool showing a Canada Post label does not, by itself, prove that its expenditure is attributed to your own membership.
The program terms also say Canada Post will not lower a savings level more than once in 12 months, or during the first 12 months after issuing the customer number. That does not make every shipment price fixed for a year. Your level and the tariff charged for a particular parcel are separate inputs.
Why might a Level 1 account receive Level 4 prices in October 2026?
The unified-pricing offer terms cover 5 August through 31 December 2026. Eligibility includes an account active within the preceding 36 months, no commercial parcels agreement and an underlying Level 1, 2 or 3 parcel savings level. Eligible members receive Level 4 pricing for eligible items during the offer and then return to their applicable level.
The same terms describe online implementation around 5 August and retail-counter implementation around 1 October, subject to Canada Post’s discretion. That is why a standard table listing higher levels as online pricing needs an offer check beside it. Ask which terms apply to the purchase you are making. Do not treat a counter implementation date as proof that an individual transaction has already received the offer.
For your store, the useful distinction is earned status versus temporary pricing. Save both in your shipping notes. If you advertise a free-delivery threshold during the offer, calculate whether the threshold still works when normal pricing resumes. A checkout setting can outlive the promotion that made it affordable. Set a reminder against the offer’s end date rather than waiting for the first more expensive label to reveal the change.
Does “up to” mean the whole label becomes that much cheaper?
No. The discount page separates domestic, U.S. and international services and publishes different maxima. Under its normal domestic table, Expedited Parcel ranges from up to 31% at Level 1 to up to 38% at Level 4. You cannot apply the difference between those percentages to an already discounted quote and call it another guaranteed saving. A maximum percentage does not identify the base price of your parcel.
The unified-pricing terms define base prices separately from options, fuel and other surcharges, duties, taxes and other fees. Build your comparison from the total offered for the actual shipment, with a note of what that total includes. A percentage attached to the base rate does not automatically reduce a signature option or another charge. Compare the same packed box, postal codes and service features across purchasing channels.
For a useful rate record, capture the date, account, service name, origin postal code, destination postal code, weight and outside dimensions. Keep a second field for optional services. Without these inputs, a cheaper screenshot may simply describe another shipment. If a supplier cannot explain what a quote includes, keep that uncertainty visible rather than filling the gap with an assumed surcharge.
How do I check the level attached to my current account?
Canada Post’s small business discount support page explains how to find your savings level through the signed-in business account. Use that account view alongside the offer terms. A card in your drawer and a remembered percentage from an earlier order are weaker evidence than the pricing shown for the current account and shipment.
Identify the paying account
Check the customer number used by your shipping tool. Keep marketplace-provided rates separate if they use another account or pricing arrangement.
Record normal level and offer status
Save the underlying level and whether unified pricing applies. Include the expiry date so your budget can distinguish current and post-offer purchases.
Quote a packed product
Use the actual finished package and the postal codes of an order you need to send. Keep packaging, service and optional features consistent.
Check the final breakdown
Record the transport amount and any other charges shown before purchase. Compare this total with what your checkout collected for the order.
If your store uses several dispatch locations, repeat the quote from the location holding the inventory. A good rate from your own address does not describe a parcel handed over elsewhere. Keep that information with the product’s packing instructions so another person can reproduce the comparison. The aim is a usable dispatch decision, not a collection of unrelated rate screenshots.
Could a different box or packing arrangement matter more than my level?
The AirPost Canada-to-Canada options page, retrieved 14 October 2026, displayed Canada Post Expedited Parcel starting at approximately C$13.70 for the small format and C$15.85 for the medium format. The displayed difference is C$15.85 − C$13.70 = C$2.15. These are published starting amounts for different formats, not paired quotes for a particular address.
That arithmetic shows why the box belongs in your worksheet. If your product safely fits the smaller format, quote the smaller finished package before assuming a better membership tier is the only way to reduce spending. The displayed AirPost transport amount already includes its platform fee; the fee agreed with the person packing and dropping off the order comes on top. The Canadian-dollar display is approximate and settlement is in euros.
AirPost lets a shop keep inventory with a sender who packs orders and hands them to the carrier. Use the seller workflow to assess that arrangement when your problem is dispatch work rather than membership pricing. Obtain the sender’s fee and an address-specific transport quote before comparing it with packing yourself. Add the cost of getting stock and packaging to that sender; the published starting transport rate does not settle those costs.
A label comparison and a fulfillment comparison serve different decisions. Use the method in average shipping costs per order for separating expense categories, then fill it with your Canadian amounts. Do not import its European example prices into this worksheet. Your records should show which option reduces transport and which option reduces work.
What should I review before the temporary offer ends?
Keep your checkout charge, carrier purchase and promotion expiry in the same review. If you subsidize shipping, identify the orders for which the subsidy depends on promotional pricing. For orders dispatched after the offer, refresh the actual account quote before reusing a saved amount. A customer ordering before an expiry does not, by itself, establish the price of a label purchased later. Base your store promise on the purchase conditions you can verify.
Frequently asked questions
What are Canada Post’s small business savings levels?
The normal program has four annual shipping-spend bands: C$0–2,499, C$2,500–4,999, C$5,000–7,499 and C$7,500 or more. A temporary eligible offer can change the pricing available without making that your permanently earned level.
Does the small business card guarantee the same rate at the post office?
Check the purchasing channel and current offer. The standard table distinguishes online from counter pricing, while the 2026 unified-pricing terms describe separate counter implementation.
How often does Canada Post review my savings level?
The published discount page says quarterly, using the previous 12 months of shipping spend. The program terms also limit how often an earned level can be lowered.
Is Level 4 pricing permanent under the 2026 offer?
No. The cited offer ends on 31 December 2026 and says eligible members return to their applicable savings level afterward. Check your account and then-current terms for purchases after that period.
Can I use an AirPost starting rate as my nationwide checkout charge?
Only after validating your actual route and packed parcel. The displayed starting transport amount includes the platform fee but excludes the negotiated sender fee, and the Canadian-dollar display is approximate.
