Chit Chats Select shipping: which Canadian orders should use it?

Route Canadian store orders through Chit Chats Select using address type, apartment access, box limits and return costs rather than postcode alone.

In short

  • Chit Chats Select is a courier-delivered Canadian service publishing 6–13 business days, best suited to residential addresses in metropolitan areas. Route PO boxes, excluded rural or depot addresses, Amazon FBA shipments and orders needing reliable business-hours delivery to another eligible service instead of offering Select everywhere.
  • Each outside package dimension must be less than 40 inches, and the published weight range is 0.1–65 lb using physical or dimensional weight.
  • Apartment orders need access information: put the buzzer number in address line 2 before buying postage.
  • Select returns have a processing fee described as C$7 or the original postage cost, whichever is more cost-effective; further charges can apply.
  • AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.

A low domestic label quote is useful only when the delivery service matches the address. For a Canadian webshop, Select should be a routing choice within your shipping process, not a blanket replacement for every postal shipment. The difficult orders are often recognizable before you print: a PO box, an office closing before evening delivery or an apartment without access instructions. This article turns the official rules checked on 14 October 2026 into a dispatch review you can apply to real orders.

Is Chit Chats Select the same service as Canada Post?

The official Select guide describes a delivery-partner network with a courier performing the last mile. It recommends Chit Chats Canada Tracked for several addresses that do not suit Select. Treat the service names as distinct products. “Chit Chats” identifies the platform, while “Select” identifies a particular postage option with its own eligibility and delivery behavior.

This distinction matters at checkout. If your store describes every domestic method as Canada Post, a buyer may expect postal-box access or a post-office collection experience that the chosen courier product does not provide. Use a description that matches the booked service and the delivery expectation you have checked. Your label purchase should agree with the method the customer selected, including any address restrictions you displayed.

For the packing team, save the exact postage type with the order. A remembered preference for Chit Chats is too broad when the platform offers several Canadian services. If another service is needed after you review the address, check its rate and transit description before making the substitution. A replacement service may solve address eligibility while changing what you can promise about arrival.

Postal codes are useful for obtaining a quote, but the street and address type can still change the delivery problem. A business and an apartment may share a nearby postcode while needing different access arrangements. Keep the exception review next to label selection. If you discover the problem only after printing, you have already created avoidable work and may need to replace unused postage according to the provider’s rules.

Do not remove “PO Box” or “RR” from the customer’s address merely to make a courier form accept it. Ask for a valid alternative address if needed, and keep the customer’s confirmation with the order. An address accepted by a form and a deliverable destination are different checkpoints. Your support team needs to know which address was approved if delivery later fails.

How should I handle apartments and businesses at checkout?

For apartments, collect the unit and buzzer information early. The Select guide specifically places the buzzer number in the second address line. Confirm that your store export preserves it instead of dropping the line or truncating it into a generic note. Open the generated label or shipment details before handover and check that the information remains readable. Fix the order record as well as the shipment so a future repeat purchase does not carry the same omission.

For a business, ask whether someone can receive the package outside ordinary office hours. The guide says Select relies on local carriers and delivery during business hours is not guaranteed. That can be unsuitable for a customer buying supplies for a closed office, even if the building is in a major city. Choose an eligible alternative rather than adding a delivery instruction that the service has not promised to honor.

Keep access requests brief and specific. Ask for the missing unit or buzzer field rather than asking the customer to rewrite the whole address. A meaningful shipping hold is better than dispatching with a guessed number. If the order contains personal delivery instructions, carry only what the courier needs into the shipment record and keep the rest with your store’s customer conversation.

Can a light parcel still fall outside Select’s limits?

Yes. The published range is 0.1–65 lb using physical or dimensional weight, and every dimension must be less than 40 inches. “Less than” is stricter than “up to”: a side measuring exactly 40 inches does not satisfy that wording. Measure the sealed package at its outside edges, including any bulge. A lightweight item in an oversized carton can fail a service limit even though the scale reading looks acceptable.

The guide lists thick envelopes and parcels as compatible package types. It also gives the import values package_type: thick_envelope or parcel and postage_type: chit_chats_select. These are relevant when preparing a CSV or checking a store preset. A flat-envelope preset can hide the service because the package category is wrong. Correct the category to match the real package; do not change it simply to reveal a desirable rate.

Keep packaging guidance by product combination, rather than treating each SKU weight as the entire shipment. Inserts, protective material and multi-item orders can change the finished dimensions. If your packing station substitutes a carton, recheck the shipment record before purchase. The smaller the margin between your package and a published limit, the less useful a remembered box size becomes.

What happens if the Canadian parcel is returned?

Chit Chats’ return-address instructions say Canadian shipments use the hub closest to the recipient as the return address, and you cannot modify it. A returned parcel goes to that hub for processing and onward movement back to you. This is different from a buyer mailing a product directly to your store address under your voluntary returns policy.

The return-fee page states that Select returns incur C$7 or the original postage amount, whichever is more cost-effective. It also says further charges may apply to get a return back to you. Treat that fee as one part of a return journey, rather than a promise that every return costs exactly C$7 delivered to your door. Check the transaction and shipment reference when it is billed.

A prepaid customer return label is another product. The Select guide warns that return-label size limits differ from the outbound service’s limits. Before promising a convenient return to a buyer of a large item, verify the return-label eligibility as well. Outbound acceptance proves only the outbound leg. Keep undeliverable returns, customer-requested returns and exchange dispatches in separate cost categories.

How does box choice affect a Canadian fulfillment comparison?

For a Canadian benchmark, the AirPost domestic options page displayed Canada Post Expedited Parcel starting amounts of approximately C$13.70 for its small format and C$33.67 for its large format on 14 October 2026. C$33.67 − C$13.70 = C$19.97. That is the difference between displayed format minima; it is not the price of upgrading a particular Select shipment.

The calculation is a reason to quote the finished box, whichever provider you choose. AirPost’s displayed amount includes the platform fee but leaves the sender’s agreed preparation fee separate. CAD is an approximate display and settlement is in euros. Under the AirPost seller arrangement, your inventory stays with a sender who prepares and drops off orders. Confirm their packaging instructions, fee and actual carrier route before comparing that work with your own Chit Chats dispatch.

When comparing options, place the eligible Select quote beside a quote for the same physical order and keep handling responsibilities visible. A low transport price does not show who checks an apartment’s access code or manages an undeliverable return. Use the shipping-cost categories to organize your Canadian expense records. The decision is ready when the delivery address, box, handoff and return path all have an owner.

Frequently asked questions

Is Chit Chats Select Canada Post?

The official Select page describes courier last-mile delivery through a partner network. It is a distinct postage service; do not describe it as interchangeable with Canada Tracked or a Canada Post postal product.

Does Chit Chats Select deliver to PO boxes?

No. Its service page excludes PO boxes and recommends Canada Tracked for those addresses. Check the alternative’s eligibility before booking.

What is the Select shipping time within Canada?

The page publishes 6–13 business days. Confirm your actual service quote and current conditions rather than promising that range as a guaranteed delivery appointment.

Why is Chit Chats Select missing from my postage choices?

Review the package type, dimensions, weight and destination. The guide supports thick envelopes and parcels, rather than letter or flat-envelope selections.

Are Select returns free?

No. The fee page describes C$7 or the original postage cost, whichever is more cost-effective, and says additional return charges can apply. Customer return labels have separate eligibility.
