In short
- On Depop, domestic shipping describes a sale shipped within the seller’s country, but a UK resale business still needs 4 checks: shipping method, destination eligibility, packed parcel and protection conditions. A domestic setting does not automatically supply a prepaid label or cover every UK postcode.
- Depop Shipping and Other use different label and tracking workflows; inspect the method attached to the actual sale.
- The published UK Evri policy uses a specific Mainland definition, including exclusions within the UK.
- If a sale uses Depop Shipping, replacing its generated label with another service can remove seller protection.
- AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.
You run a vintage or resale shop and cross-list stock on Depop. Your first UK order looks straightforward, but the word domestic leaves several operational questions unanswered. Who buys the label? Can that service reach the buyer’s postcode? Is the packed bundle still within the selected size? Which evidence does the marketplace expect if the parcel goes missing?
Treat national delivery coverage and the shipping workflow as separate settings. This guide is for a business organising repeated orders, rather than a buyer asking how much one purchase will cost. Keep your product records and shipping instructions together so staff can reproduce the correct process when you are not packing the sale yourself.
Does choosing domestic shipping generate a Depop label?
Check the method in the order. Depop’s UK guide says its Evri shipping option provides a QR code and printable label, with tracking handled automatically. If the method is Other, you arrange and pay for your own shipping. Depop asks sellers using that route to choose tracking and add the information; it warns that tracking cannot be amended once entered. Read Depop’s current UK shipping workflow.
A buyer paying a shipping charge is not proof that the marketplace has already bought your label. Before packing, open the sales record and identify whether the generated label exists or whether you must purchase shipping. Keep a record of the method attached to that sale. A setting changed for future listings should not be assumed to rewrite an already completed transaction.
For a shop with several people handling orders, make label retrieval a distinct task. The person who wraps the garment should not improvise another carrier because they cannot find the marketplace email. Give them access through an appropriate business process, and check the correct sale reference before printing. Removing an old label from reused packaging is part of that final check, not proof that the new label belongs to the right buyer.
Which UK destinations fall outside the published Evri policy?
Depop’s UK Shipping Policy defines Mainland for that policy rather than simply meaning every UK address. It excludes Northern Ireland, the specified Scottish Highlands and islands, Guernsey, Jersey and the Isles of Scilly; its definition explicitly includes the Isle of Man and Isle of Wight. Do not replace the policy’s list with an everyday geographical assumption. Check the published definition and postcode schedules.
Use the full postcode and the actual shipping option at the point of sale. A UK country selection is too coarse to establish coverage. If the marketplace workflow and the public policy appear inconsistent for a destination, resolve that with support before sending the parcel under another label. You need confirmation of the usable method and its protection consequences, not a guess that every UK-to-UK order must work the same way.
This is particularly useful when configuring your own website alongside Depop. Your webshop may offer a carrier route that the marketplace’s managed option does not. Keep the channels’ availability rules separate. A product page saying UK delivery on your website should not become the instruction for buying a different label on a Depop sale.
How can a lightweight bundle still fail the parcel check?
The UK policy’s general parcel criteria include a maximum length of 120 cm, weight no more than 15 kg and a combined-dimension calculation using length plus twice the sum of the shorter sides. The text says that total needs to be under 245 cm. Your selected label size can be more restrictive; these outer limits do not make a small label valid for any parcel below the maximum.
For an illustrative packed box measuring 90 × 40 × 35 cm, the calculation is 90 + 2 × (40 + 35) = 240 cm. That demonstrates the combined-size test only. It does not prove eligibility for a particular Depop size band, product category or destination. Measure after packing, because a garment listing’s approximate dimensions are not the dimensions of its shipping carton.
| Check on the completed parcel | Why the shop needs it | If it fails |
|---|---|---|
| Weight against the purchased size | Packaging and a bundle can change the label needed | Resolve the correct label before dispatch |
| Longest side and combined dimensions | A light carton can still be too large | Repack safely or confirm a permitted service |
| Destination against the actual service | Domestic country coverage is not enough | Resolve postcode eligibility |
| Contents against prohibited and excluded lists | Transport acceptance and compensation differ | Review both lists before choosing the method |
| Barcode and receipt address | The physical parcel must match the sale | Correct a mismatch before handover |
For bundles, pack the combined sale once before deciding which size to buy. Do not attach separate parcels together and assume the dimensions of one still apply. Use the marketplace’s current bundle workflow and keep the shipping reference linked to the transaction. An accurate packing record makes a later enquiry much easier than trying to reconstruct which items travelled in which box.
What does the £250 seller-protection limit actually cover?
Depop’s protection page sets a UK transaction cap of £250 including item price, shipping and applicable taxes. A bundle counts as one transaction. Eligibility also requires the generated Depop Shipping label, dispatch within five days of the transaction and the buyer’s address on the sales receipt, alongside the other stated criteria. Read the current seller-protection conditions.
Do not evaluate the cap using only the product price if the order total also contains shipping or taxes. Similarly, a customer message asking for another address is not a substitute for the receipt address required by the programme. Resolve an address problem through the appropriate marketplace process before shipment instead of privately overwriting the label.
Depop says an alternative shipping method on a Depop Shipping order will not receive that protection and the order may be automatically cancelled and refunded. The practical implication is to escalate a missing, unusable or incorrect managed label. Buying your usual webshop label first can create a second problem even if that carrier successfully delivers the parcel.
Does worldwide shipping change the domestic order workflow?
Keep the decision to sell abroad separate from the national shipping method. Depop publishes a worldwide shipping guide covering international dispatch and related preparation. Check that guide before enabling an overseas offer. A domestic price is not a universal quote for every destination, and international sales can require additional information and paperwork.
For your business, record which country the stock actually leaves and the methods supported for each channel. Do not infer dispatch from the language of a listing or the currency a shopper sees. When a buyer asks for an overseas delivery price, obtain a service for the real route before agreeing a charge. A national-only offer is a reasonable operational limit when you have not yet established a workable international process.
If the same stock also sells through your webshop, remove sold items promptly from other listings using your established inventory process. Shipping settings cannot solve a stock conflict. Agree who is authorised to mark a marketplace item sold, retrieve its label and communicate a hold, so the packing team does not discover that conflict only at dispatch.
Can you delegate packing without replacing the marketplace label?
AirPost describes a shop placing products and packaging with a sender who prepares orders and drops parcels at a parcel point. When considering that model for your independent webshop, agree which label and order details the sender will use. Explore local fulfilment for shops with an explicit handover process. Do not assume that a separate fulfilment arrangement creates a Depop integration or changes marketplace eligibility.
A preparation cost example from AirPost’s constants, checked on 19 October 2026: €2.25 recommended sender payment plus €0.85 platform fee equals €3.10. It excludes postage, materials and inbound stock transport, and the sender sets the actual fee. Keep this euro subtotal separate from a pound-denominated Depop order; it is not a marketplace label price or seller-protection premium.
For a managed marketplace sale, first establish whether your proposed packing arrangement can use the required label and receipt address correctly under the current terms. For the wider distinction between a marketplace sale and a packing service, see parcel packing versus reselling in the UK. Delegation should make the process reproducible, with each sale tied to its own instructions.
Frequently asked questions
What is domestic shipping on Depop?
It describes shipping within the seller’s country. For a UK business, you still need to check whether the sale uses Depop Shipping or Other, which service covers the postcode and which label is required.
Does a domestic shipping price include a prepaid label?
Not automatically. The actual shipping method determines whether Depop supplies the label or you must organise shipping. Check the sale rather than relying on the amount the buyer paid.
How do I add tracking when using my own shipping?
Depop’s UK guide explains the steps for the app and website. Check the reference before saving it, because the guide says tracking information cannot be amended once added.
Can I substitute my normal courier for a Depop label?
Do not assume the protection transfers. Depop requires its generated label for a Depop Shipping order and warns about loss of protection and possible cancellation when another method is used.
Is a bundle’s protection limit calculated per garment?
No. Depop treats a bundle as one transaction for the protection cap. Assess the total, including the shipping fees and applicable taxes described in its policy.
