In short

  • For a DPD Ireland business account, compare 3 things before accepting a quote: the contracting company, your actual parcel profiles and the complete charges. DPD’s direct SME sales route differs from shipping.dpd.ie, whose terms name Parcel2Go as the contracting provider.
  • DPD Ireland publishes a weekly energy surcharge and specific non-conveyable rules. A quoted transport rate alone may not be the amount you pay.
  • A standard rate request needs sealed weights and outer dimensions, plus the real collection address and destination mix.
  • There is no universal account price or guaranteed discount established by the public pages used here. Ask for terms applying to your business.
  • AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.

A commercial account can simplify repeated dispatch, but the useful question is what happens to your ordinary orders and your awkward ones. A price for a neat demonstration carton tells you little about a long poster tube, a thin flat pack or a collection missed because the stock is held elsewhere. Bring those cases into the quote before moving your checkout onto a new service.

Am I applying directly to DPD or booking through another company?

DPD Ireland has an SME services page and a business customer enquiry route. Its personal website also links to Quote & Book. Familiar branding does not establish that both options have the same commercial contract. Read the company named in the agreement, the invoice issuer and the claims procedure before treating one as a preview of the other.

The online booking terms explicitly say that the transportation contract is with Parcel2Go and that Interlink Ireland is not a party to it. They also provide for charging the higher of actual and volumetric weight, with correction charges for under-declared measurements. Those provisions belong to that booking channel. Do not copy its payment terms into a direct DPD proposal.

Save the terms delivered with the offer you intend to accept. If sales staff discuss an exception for your packaging or collection pattern, ask where that exception appears in the agreement. A saved conversation is easier to assess than a remembered phone call, particularly when the first invoice includes an unexpected adjustment.

What parcel information produces a useful business rate?

Give DPD a short profile for each materially different basket. Include the sealed weight, length, width, depth, contents and packaging type. Use the dimensions of the parcel handed to the driver, not the dimensions of the product before packing. Include a photograph when the carton shape is difficult to describe.

Separate domestic Irish orders, Northern Irish addresses, Great Britain and other export destinations. Their paperwork and rate schedules can differ. A sales forecast should identify what you know from completed orders and what you merely expect. Do not inflate projected volume to obtain a rate you cannot maintain under its agreed conditions.

  1. Describe the routine carton

Supply measured packed dimensions and weight for your main basket. Note whether that profile changes with gift wrapping, protective inserts or a second product.

  2. Show the exceptions

List long, unusually thin, irregular or heavy packages separately. Ask sales to classify each rather than pricing all orders as the smallest carton.

  3. State the handover reality

Give the collection address, access details and actual dispatch pattern. Ask what happens on a day with no parcel or when the normal packer is absent.

  4. Request a complete written schedule

Ask for applicable extras, VAT treatment, invoice timing, returns and claims terms. Retain the accepted version with the first shipment records.

Use one sheet for the measurements and another for destinations. This lets you change a box without losing the lane assumptions behind your rate. If your supplier ships the same item in a larger retail package next month, update the profile before applying the old business price to new orders.

Which DPD Ireland measurements trigger extra handling?

The current non-conveyable page lists parcels or sheets under 10 mm deep, and items exceeding 1,200 × 700 × 700 mm or 31 kg, within the stated larger range. Exceeding one of the relevant dimensions is enough to trigger the condition. This is a surcharge policy, not permission to send anything below the larger figures.

The same page says that above 2,200 mm length or 900 mm width/depth, an oversize charge of €15/£15 replaces the non-conveyable charge regardless of weight. Confirm acceptance first: paying an extra amount does not override prohibitions or your contracted service’s limits. These figures were checked on 14 October 2026.

Measured order profileWhat to ask DPDPacking decision
Flat package below 10 mm depthDoes the non-conveyable condition apply?Choose suitable protective packaging and price the result
Carton with one side above the normal conveyor figuresWhat classification and charge apply to this profile?Compare a suitable smaller carton where protection allows
Long item above 2,200 mmIs it accepted and does the published oversize condition apply?Obtain a service specifically accepting its final dimensions
Ordinary carton within the published figuresAre contents, packaging and the purchased service still eligible?Keep measured evidence with the product profile

A tube deserves its own enquiry even when its measured length looks acceptable. Automated handling depends on more than the longest edge. Ask how your chosen outer packaging is classified and whether it can travel in the service quoted. Avoid describing an irregular item simply as a box to make the booking form easier.

Will my account invoice equal the base rate?

DPD Ireland’s trading-terms page says its energy surcharge is calculated weekly using European Union oil prices. A base transport quotation therefore cannot establish a permanent all-in amount unless the offer expressly explains how that surcharge is treated. Request the applicable calculation and its place on the invoice, rather than assuming a historical percentage remains current.

Ask which extras apply to collection, exceptional handling, returns and international paperwork. The answer should identify charges relevant to your parcel profiles. A general list of possible charges is useful, but you still need to know which ones your own orders trigger and whether quoted prices include VAT.

For your first invoice review, match each charged shipment to the original declared measurements and booked service. Then reconcile any correction to the carrier’s recorded measurements. If several adjustments concern the same product, correct its dispatch profile. Repeatedly disputing the same avoidable mismatch leaves the underlying checkout budget wrong.

What if I want someone else to pack the orders?

A carrier business account buys transport under its agreed conditions. It does not, by itself, put your stock with someone who picks and packs each webshop order. Decide whether you want collection from your own packing desk or to delegate preparation. The collection address must follow the arrangement that actually holds and prepares the goods.

Here is a separate AirPost cost reference, using shared constants checked on 14 October 2026. The recommended small-parcel sender payment is €2.25 and the platform charge is €0.85, giving €3.10 before the carrier component. Your sender sets the actual preparation payment; the recommendation is not a contracted quote.

For a hypothetical set of 12 matching dispatches, those two reference components total €37.20. Add the eligible label costs and materials to complete the budget. If you use an AirPost shipping-options price, its platform charge is already included, so add only preparation and the other genuinely separate expenses.

Use AirPost for webshops to assess that preparation arrangement. This article does not establish that a direct DPD Ireland contract can be imported into AirPost, or that DPD is available on every Irish lane. Keep the quoted service and the actual label purchasing route together.

How can I move orders without breaking the dispatch promise?

Before switching your whole order queue, validate the operational path with an eligible ordinary order. Confirm how the label is produced, who places it on the carton, where handover happens and where tracking appears for your customer. Retain the handover evidence and compare the charged amount with the accepted schedule.

Then check one of your genuine exception profiles through the agreed process. A successful domestic standard box does not establish that exports or large items work the same way. Only publish a delivery option when your business can carry out the handover and supply the information its service requires.

The DPD-to-Ireland guide addresses parcels arriving from another country. For stock held locally, the Irish stock and dispatch guide covers the preparation side. Keep those directions separate when requesting your business rates.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open a DPD Ireland business account?

Use DPD Ireland’s business customer or SME enquiry route and provide your measured parcel profiles, destinations and collection arrangement. Ask for the rates and conditions offered to your own business.

Does DPD Ireland publish business rates for every small shop?

The public pages checked here do not establish one universal direct-account rate. Compare the complete proposal you receive with eligible online alternatives.

Is shipping.dpd.ie the same contract as a direct DPD account?

Its terms identify Parcel2Go as the transportation contracting party. A direct account enquiry is a separate route; read the agreement supplied with that offer.

Can a very thin parcel attract a surcharge?

DPD Ireland’s non-conveyable list includes parcels or sheets under 10 mm deep. Ask about your actual packed profile and the purchased service before using a normal-carton rate.

Does a DPD business rate include packing my webshop orders?

Do not assume it does. Transport and order preparation need separate arrangements unless your proposal explicitly includes both. For AirPost, add the sender’s agreed preparation amount to a supported label quote.
