In short

  • The domestic carrier minimum in the Netherlands is €6.05 at 5 kg and €6.05 at 10 kg in the 6 October 2026 index snapshot. These are starting observations before platform and packing charges, subject to service eligibility.
  • Weigh the sealed parcel and measure its outer dimensions; catalogue weight alone is insufficient.
  • The cheapest observation may be collection delivery rather than delivery to the customer's door.
  • A 2 kg cross-border figure does not establish the price of a heavier international carton.
  • AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.

What the prices include

Every price in the index table is a carrier-only minimum, excluding platform costs, the sender's preparation charge and your packaging. Snapshot collected on 6 October 2026. Different weight rows may select different services; the table is not a promise that one service accepts every parcel.

What does a 2, 5 or 10 kg parcel cost in the Netherlands?

Packed weight observedStarts and ends in the countryScope
2 kg€4.65Domestic carrier minimum
5 kg€6.05Domestic carrier minimum
10 kg€6.05Domestic carrier minimum
Euros; lowest eligible standard carrier observation in the live index, without platform costs. Weight observations are not universal dimensional allowances.

The figures come from the European shipping rates index, rather than retail counter prices or a private carrier contract. Use them to decide which parcel profiles need a closer quote. A webshop's actual delivery expenditure depends on the service it can buy for a real carton, the recipient postcode and the selected delivery method.

Which weight changes matter for a shop selling in the Netherlands?

The Dutch observations are €4.65 at 2 kg and €6.05 at both 5 and 10 kg. The jump between the first two weights is €1.40, while the two heavier index observations match. That makes the distinction between a qualifying letterbox parcel and a regular parcel worth checking before you design a flat checkout charge.

The domestic page actually lists PostNL Mailbox for a letterbox parcel and separate regular PostNL, DPD and UPS services. A 2 kg product does not automatically qualify as a brievenbuspakje. Its sealed outer package must satisfy the selected letterbox service's dimensions as well. A light ceramic bowl needs a box, whereas a flat textile item may qualify after you account for padding and the label.

Take an example clothing shop with packed weights of 0.8 kg for a T-shirt, 2.6 kg for a heavier outfit and 7.4 kg for a multipack. Treat them as separate parcel profiles. The weight observations help you budget, but the carton can be the decisive restriction. A flexible bag must still fit the relevant service rules; squeezing packaging flat for a photograph is not an eligibility check.

Does the lowest price mean home delivery?

The live Dutch page labels DPD Classic Service point as recipient collection and Shop2Home as home delivery. PostNL Classic is listed in both forms. The same carrier name, and sometimes the same product name, can therefore hide a different recipient experience. Use the delivery badge and the actual chosen service when you explain the option to an English-speaking customer.

Collection delivery requires a compatible point or locker and the correct order data. Home delivery requires a valid recipient address. Compare the options for the same parcel before treating either as your default. The country-specific pickup versus home guide explains that delivery choice; the weight table here answers a separate budgeting question.

Can I use these figures for a cross-border parcel?

From Germany, the Dutch 2 kg index observation is €7.25 rather than the €4.65 domestic minimum. The Netherlands-origin column is blank because that comparison would be domestic, not another international lane. Do not interpret a dash as a free shipment or missing permission to sell. Compare the domestic column with the correct foreign origin when budgeting a cross-border order.

Use a lane quote when the order starts outside the destination country. Keep the weight, dimensions and delivery method consistent across alternatives. An international 2 kg observation alongside a domestic 10 kg observation is useful context, but subtracting them is not a like-for-like estimate. Missing index entries also do not mean that a shipment costs nothing or that a service can never be booked.

What would a mixed batch of 100 orders cost?

An example batch of 100 Dutch orders containing 40 eligible 2 kg observations and 60 eligible 5 kg observations has a carrier-only minimum of €549.00. Its average is €5.49. If all 100 move into the 5 kg observation after a packaging change, the corresponding minimum becomes €605.00. That €56.00 difference is a packaging decision expressed in transport expenditure.

Build your budget from each order group rather than choosing one country's lowest advertised amount. Multiply each eligible group's unit cost by its order count, add those totals, then divide by completed shipments. Keep returns and cancelled labels separate so they remain visible. This example is an arithmetic model at recorded minima, not a guarantee that all of your orders can use those services.

Which costs belong beside the carrier amount?

A complete order budget includes the purchased label, platform charge where applicable, the preparation fee agreed with the sender, packaging materials and any eligible collection or additional-service charges. Include replenishment transport when comparing different stock locations. Use the actual amounts in your quote and agreements; the index intentionally does not supply a universal all-in fulfilment price.

Keep revenue and costs on the same accounting basis when evaluating your margin. The published index does not settle the tax treatment of a particular invoice, item or business. Your bookkeeper can reconcile the final invoices with your own records. The useful operational step is to retain the quote and purchased service, so the eventual expenditure can be traced to the assumption used at checkout.

How do I check a rate before using it at checkout?

  1. Create parcel profiles

Pack representative orders as they leave your shop. Record the sealed weight, longest dimensions, destination and recipient delivery method. Include packaging and protective inserts. Separate a thin parcel, a regular box and an unusually bulky order even if their product weights look similar.

  2. Request matching quotes

Use the real origin, destination and parcel details. Confirm that the page shows the intended lane and that a recipient point service is actually a point service. If a chosen option cannot accept your carton, remove it from that profile rather than keeping its attractive starting price.

  3. Calculate the full order cost

Add preparation, packaging and applicable platform or extra-service charges to the selected carrier quote. Estimate the average from your actual order mix. An example batch at minimum prices is a useful baseline, but it should not replace the accepted rate for the service you plan to buy.

  4. Verify a normal order

Check the purchased label, recipient instructions and final cost before rolling out the checkout rule. Review discrepancies by parcel profile. A repeated mismatch can identify a packaging problem, an unsupported delivery choice or a quote that was taken for a different origin.

What should I check for this destination?

A Dutch postcode and house number should describe the actual delivery address for a home service. A pickup address must instead be selected according to the service's supported network. Avoid copying a parcel shop's street address into an ordinary residential address field and assuming that creates collection delivery. The label needs the correct delivery type, not merely a familiar physical location.

  • Sealed weight and dimensions fit the actual service.
  • Origin and destination match the quote.
  • Recipient collection or home delivery matches the checkout promise.
  • Carrier-only and complete operating costs stay separately identified.
  • A lower starting observation is applied to every basket without checking eligibility.

For the wider country setup, read the existing shipping guide. If you want another person to prepare orders, compare the agreed preparation charge through AirPost for webshops alongside the matching label quote. The transport index remains one input in that decision, rather than the total amount the shop spends.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does a 5 kg parcel cost within the Netherlands?

The captured carrier index starts at €6.05 for the 5 kg domestic observation. It excludes platform costs and the preparation charge agreed with the sender. A service still needs to accept your real parcel's dimensions and recipient delivery method. Check a quote before advertising that observation as a checkout price.

Is a 10 kg parcel twice the price of a 5 kg parcel in the Netherlands?

No proportional rule follows from the index. The recorded 10 kg observation is €6.05, while 5 kg is €6.05. Services can have different weight and size limits. Compare the actual eligible products rather than multiplying the lighter observation by two.

Do these prices include the person packing the order?

No. These are carrier-only index observations. The preparation fee agreed with a sender, platform costs, materials and relevant extra services belong beside the label cost in a complete budget. The article does not estimate those private agreements or promise one total price for every shop.

Can I send a 5 kg order using a 2 kg price?

Only a purchased service that accepts the actual packed parcel is valid. The index's 2 kg figure is an observation at that weight, not an allowance for a heavier carton. A product weighing less than 2 kg can also cross the limit after the outer box and protective materials are added.

Why might the final quote differ from this table?

The live card can change after the snapshot, and your postcode, parcel dimensions or delivery choice can select another service. A collection product and home delivery are different options even when their carrier names match. Keep the accepted quote as the operational price and use the dated index as comparison evidence.
