How to ship Pokémon cards with eBay Standard Envelope

A US seller workflow for Pokémon singles: check eBay envelope eligibility, flexible protection, combined orders, limited tracking and claim deadlines.

In short

  • Use eBay Standard Envelope for an eligible US card order only when the finished envelope weighs no more than 3 oz, is uniformly under ¼ inch thick and remains flexible. Check the actual listing category and label availability before choosing this method for your Pokémon singles.
  • A holder that protects a card can still make the whole envelope unsuitable for machine processing.
  • Keep the label creation date: the protection terms use it to calculate claim deadlines.
  • Route cards needing a rigid parcel through a suitable parcel service instead of reducing protection to fit the envelope.
  • AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.

Which Pokémon orders should enter your envelope queue?

Set up a separate dispatch queue for eligible singles rather than assigning every Pokémon product to the same mailer. A raw card, a bulky card holder, a sealed product and a display box do not have the same packed shape. Decide from the sold item and its complete protection, then confirm what eBay offers for that listing. Your packing team needs the resulting service decision on the order sheet. A note saying only “Pokémon shipping” leaves them to guess.

The eBay developer guidance says sellers must use a supported category and notes that not every trading-card category qualifies. The service belongs to the US marketplace. Selecting a category inaccurately to make a shipping option appear would leave your listing wrong; use the correct category and a suitable alternative when necessary. An available label is a useful operational check, but it does not certify your finished packaging.

Create an exception tray for orders that cannot use your approved envelope setup. Typical reasons to investigate include a holder that changes thickness, several protected cards that create a lump, or a destination outside the service you are using. Keep the item and order identity together while you resolve the exception. Do not let an unpaid upgrade or a missing mailer turn into a silent service substitution. The seller should approve the dispatch decision before the packing task continues.

How do you protect the card without making a rigid package?

Start with a sleeve appropriate to the card and a protection arrangement you have checked with the postal requirements. Keep adhesive away from the card surface and the opening through which it will be removed. The aim is a controlled assembly: the card stays in place, the envelope closes normally and the buyer can unpack it without pulling sticky material across a corner. Avoid forcing a thicker card into a holder merely because that holder is already beside the packing desk.

The current eBay packing guidance explains that sorting equipment uses rollers, so the envelope needs to bend. It also gives a permitted range from 3.5 × 5 inches to 6.125 × 11.5 inches. Use the full published specification, including the address orientation and closure restrictions, for approval of your chosen envelope. A package-like slab of cardboard inside compliant outer dimensions does not automatically qualify as letter mail.

Make one reference assembly for each holder arrangement you actually sell. Inspect the closed flap, the card position and the thickness around overlapping material. A neat stack in the middle can create a different profile from an evenly distributed layout. Put the measured, approved assembly beside the packing instructions so a substitute sleeve or envelope is visible as a change. Recheck the setup when materials change. The name on a box of envelopes is not a measurement of the envelope after you fill it.

Can you combine several card orders in one envelope?

Combining orders requires a fresh packing decision. It changes the total weight, the distribution of protective material and the relationship between your label and the sold items. Pull the combined order record before printing, then compare it with the cards on the table. Do not reuse the single-card setup by simply stacking more holders. You may need a different arrangement or a parcel. Keep the service and its protection conditions attached to the actual combined shipment.

On the page checked on 14 October 2026, eBay advertises up to 24 cards in its own three-pocket envelope kit. That statement describes the kit; it is not approval for every envelope or every combination of holders. Older tutorials may describe a different packing arrangement. If you use the kit, follow its current instructions. If you use other materials, validate those materials against the service specification and the label offered for the order.

Keep a combined-order packing list that preserves each sold card’s identity. Include set, card number, language, finish and your inventory identifier where needed. Two cards sharing a character name can be different products. Tick each position before closing the envelope, then reconcile the completed list with the label record. A lower shipping cost is useful only when you can still explain which cards travelled under that label and respond accurately if a buyer reports a missing position.

What does shipment protection actually cover?

The eBay protection terms limit protection to the lesser of the relevant sale price excluding tax or the stated cap: $20 for an individual item, with multi-item shipments limited to $20 per item and $50 overall. Combining cards does not remove the per-item limit. Read the exclusions and claim requirements before promising a particular result to a buyer. A protection ceiling is not an automatic payment after any complaint.

Build a small evidence record around the order rather than photographing everything indiscriminately. Keep the sold listing, the actual card identifier, the packing arrangement, the label and the relevant tracking record. Photos of the front and back can help connect condition to the sale, but they do not replace documents requested by the protection provider. Keep the original files and a clear order reference. An image of an anonymous sealed envelope cannot resolve which printing of a card was sold.

For damaged cards, gather the buyer’s description and useful images before deciding which process applies. A bent card, an incorrectly described condition and a different card in the envelope are separate problems. Your response should address the particular complaint. The transport protection route may help with transit damage, while a picking error requires your own correction. Do not label all disputes as shipping losses because you have a tracking number. That can send the buyer and your team into the wrong workflow.

What should you do when tracking seems incomplete?

eBay describes this service as having limited integrated tracking. Its Seller Center also says an acceptance scan is not required to send the envelope. Train your team to recognize that distinction: an absent scan is something to investigate in context, rather than proof that a parcel-style scan must exist. Check the record available through the transaction and avoid promising the buyer a scan event the service does not require. Keep your packing completion and posting records available alongside it.

The protection terms require claims within 90 days of label creation, and lost-shipment claims cannot be submitted before 15 days from that same event. These are protection-process rules, not a delivery promise. Record the label date even when packing and posting occur later. If you replace a label, make the relationship between the two records clear. A calendar entry based only on your warehouse’s dispatch date could leave the team watching the wrong deadline.

  1. Open the relevant eBay transaction and verify the label identifier, creation date and service.
  2. Check the buyer’s address and what the available tracking actually says, without inventing a missing scan.
  3. Confirm the card list and posting record; separate a possible picking error from a possible transit loss.
  4. Handle the buyer’s request through the appropriate eBay process and check the separate protection-claim timing.
  5. Retain the requested evidence and claim reference so the next person can continue the same case.

How does this affect a card shop adding European fulfilment?

Keep your US envelope operation separate from a European stock operation. A domestic US eBay label is not a reusable instruction for cards held with a sender elsewhere. You need the correct origin, route and transport conditions for those orders. Inventory identifiers can be shared across the shop, but shipping approvals belong to the actual location. Make that distinction visible in the packing sheet so a familiar card SKU cannot accidentally trigger the wrong country’s mail service.

For a separate European letterbox-order budget, the AirPost constants checked on 14 October 2026 give €0.85 platform fee plus €1.50 recommended sender payment: €2.35 before transport, materials and stock delivery. These are euro planning figures for that separate operation, not a dollar eBay-envelope price. Agree the sender’s actual payment and packing task before allocating valuable singles to the location.

With AirPost, shops send stock and their own packaging to a sender who packs and drops off orders; stock, orders and tracking run through the conversation. See outsource shipping for the process. Before placing cards elsewhere, use how much stock to send first to define a controlled opening allocation. Keep valuable-stock arrangements and the card-specific transport decision separate from the US eBay envelope method described here.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ship Pokémon cards in a normal envelope on eBay?

For an eligible order, a normal envelope can work if the finished assembly meets all current service rules. Check flexibility, uniform thickness, packed weight, dimensions and actual label availability.

Can I use a bubble mailer with eBay Standard Envelope?

Do not assume it qualifies. Evaluate the filled mailer against the service requirements. If your protection requires a thicker or more rigid package, choose a suitable parcel service.

How many Pokémon cards can I send together?

eBay advertises up to 24 cards with its specified three-pocket kit. Other packing arrangements need their own checks; card count alone does not prove eligibility.

Does Standard Envelope get an acceptance scan?

eBay says an acceptance scan is not required. The service has limited integrated tracking, which should not be presented as an ordinary parcel-scanning workflow.

When can I claim for a lost envelope?

The published terms permit a lost-shipment claim no earlier than 15 days after label creation and require claims within 90 days. Check the complete current terms and keep the label date.
