In short

  • Your UK home business can send eligible Royal Mail shop orders without printing labels by selecting Bring My Label when booking collection. Parcel Collect states a maximum of 25 items, while Royal Mail suggests discussing a business account if you send more than 20 parcels a week.
  • You still prepare and correctly identify each parcel: the postie brings the label, and you attach it to the matching item.
  • Bring My Label from a nominated Safeplace is limited to one pre-printed postage label. A batch of unlabelled orders needs a different handover plan.
  • New, unbooked extras cannot rely on the postie bringing more labels. Book their label service or prepare a valid barcoded label before handover.
  • AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.

Where do I select Bring My Label for outgoing orders?

Start with the actual postage and collection journey for your outgoing sale. On the official Parcel Collect page, Royal Mail describes choosing Bring My Label during an online or app collection booking. The option needs to be selected for the intended item. A parcel that has postage bought elsewhere does not become printer-free merely because Royal Mail is the carrier. Check what your booking confirms before setting the order aside without a label.

Record the order number, recipient, postage reference and collection date together. Add a simple note showing whether a physical label is expected at the door or has already been attached. This helps if you sell through more than one marketplace: the same customer name can appear in different orders, and two parcels can look identical. The task is to associate one paid postage label with one prepared item throughout the handover.

If the option is absent, pause before making another postage purchase. Identify who issued the existing label and what preparation that service requires. Keep the parcel on the unresolved list until a valid printing or collection route is agreed. A screenshot of a payment receipt is useful for your records, but it does not replace a readable postage label. Avoid creating duplicate services just to make a missing option disappear.

Who checks which label goes on each box?

The Parcel Collect specific terms for non-account customers place responsibility for attaching the postage label and its correct information on you. This remains relevant when a physical copy arrives with the postie. Treat label attachment as a short final check in your packing process. Compare the recipient and reference with the parcel you prepared, then hand over that item. Do not guess from the position of the boxes in a stack.

Use internal identifiers that survive packing. For example, mark your own order reference on a removable work tag before the postage label arrives. Keep that identifier away from the area needed for the carrier label. When two customers buy the same product, a product code alone cannot distinguish their parcels. The order reference does. After attachment, record the association with the postage reference so a later tracking question can be answered without opening a customer’s order again.

  1. Prepare and close the correct order, then measure and weigh the finished parcel.
  2. Record its order reference and recipient on your handover list.
  3. Check that the booking includes the requested label service for that item.
  4. At handover, match the supplied label to the order and attach it where it is readable.
  5. Record the parcel actually handed over and keep any exception on the pending list.

The terms allow refusal for matters including incorrect item information, duplicated or invalid labels and missing required documentation. A printer-free booking therefore does not remove the checks that make a shipment valid. If one box needs a corrected address, isolate it before collection. You can then hand over the cleared orders without asking the postie to resolve a sales or customer-service decision on the doorstep.

Can I leave several unlabelled parcels in my Safeplace?

The collection page includes a specific restriction: when Bring My Label is used for collection from a nominated Safeplace, the postie can bring only one pre-printed postage label. This matters if your home business has several finished orders and you plan to leave the house. Do not apply the one-item arrangement to a row of indistinguishable, unlabelled parcels. Check a suitable attended handover or another confirmed method for the batch.

Choose a Safeplace through the carrier’s intended process and keep customer parcels protected while they wait. Your shop still needs to know which items remain on the premises. Do not assume that moving a box to a nominated spot means the handover has happened. Keep the collection booking and the later collection information distinct in your order records. This also helps a colleague who takes over customer messages while you are away.

What if another sale arrives after I have booked?

Royal Mail describes taking extra, unbooked items during an existing collection on a best-efforts basis. Such extras need their barcoded Royal Mail address labels already applied, and the postie cannot bring labels for them or collect them from a Safeplace. That is a different situation from a booked order with Bring My Label selected. A fresh sale cannot simply join the unlabelled pile because somebody is already coming to your home.

Set a clear internal release point for your collection group. Orders cleared before it go through the booked preparation route; later orders receive a separate decision. This is your shop procedure, not an invented Royal Mail cutoff. It prevents a helper from promising same-day dispatch for an item that still needs packing or a valid label. If you ask for an extra item to be taken, keep a fallback plan because available capacity is not guaranteed.

A useful fallback begins with knowing exactly which parcel remains. Keep its order, postage reference and location together, and choose the next usable handover method. Do not automatically rebuy postage when only the collection attempt needs attention. Check the existing booking with its issuer. Where you need to produce labels yourself more often, the UK label-printer guide helps you test a device against the files you actually receive.

Does avoiding a printer change my delivery promise?

Parcel Collect states that collection adds a working day to its delivery aims and guarantees. Check that wording before your shop promises next-day arrival from a home collection. Buying a service with a fast name does not remove the effect of its chosen handover route. Apply the relevant product information to your checkout wording, dispatch notice and customer-service replies. The customer sees a promised arrival, rather than your distinction between packing and collection.

Keep a separate preparation allowance for personalised or incomplete orders. That allowance comes from your own measured work, while the carrier’s stated effect comes from the service. Do not merge the two into a general claim that Royal Mail always takes the same number of days from the moment of sale. For seasonal selling, the guide to Royal Mail Christmas cutoffs explains why you must use the published information for the relevant year and product.

Do parcel size and postage checks still apply without printing?

Yes. Royal Mail’s small-parcel page lists up to 2 kg and maximum dimensions of 45 × 35 × 16 cm for its described small-parcel format. Measure after closing the parcel, including protection. Bring My Label supplies a label for the booked service; it does not make a larger box fit the format you selected. A changed product bundle needs another check even when you continue using the same collection method.

Use the correct product and current booking price for the item. Official pages can show different collection price statements, so avoid basing your whole dispatch budget on an old search snippet. Preserve the charges confirmed during the purchase. When comparing alternatives, include postage, the selected collection or label option, packing material and your preparation time. Removing a printer task saves that task; it does not mean every remaining dispatch cost disappears.

What if I want someone else to pack the orders as well?

For a separate AirPost illustration, consider six small parcels that fit the chosen shipping service. Constants checked on 14 October 2026 give €0.85 platform fee plus €2.25 recommended sender compensation, or €3.10 per parcel. Six such orders total €18.60 before transport, packaging, collection and stock delivery. These are euro-denominated preparation figures, not a Royal Mail quote in pounds or an assumed currency conversion.

The sender compensation is agreed with the person doing the work. Through AirPost for shops, you send stock and packaging to a sender who prepares orders and hands parcels over. Agree which label and handover methods are usable at that location. Your own Royal Mail collection booking does not automatically apply there, and a direct Bring My Label option is not a promise about every label purchased through AirPost.

Begin by deciding which task is blocking dispatch. If the finished orders are waiting only for a printed label, an eligible label service may solve it. If you cannot find time to pick, protect and pack the items, you need preparation capacity as well. A clear agreement names who checks the order, who attaches the label and who confirms handover. That makes the next step measurable: the right parcel leaves the right packing location through a valid service.

Frequently asked questions

Can my home business use Royal Mail collection without a printer?

Select Bring My Label for an eligible collection during the booking journey and check the confirmation. You still prepare the parcel and attach the supplied label to the correct item.

Will Royal Mail automatically bring labels for all my shop orders?

Check the selected label option for each booked item. Newly added, unbooked extras require their own barcoded labels; the postie cannot bring labels for those extras.

Can I use Bring My Label for several Safeplace parcels?

Royal Mail limits the supplied pre-printed label to one when this service is used from a nominated Safeplace. Arrange another confirmed handover plan for an unlabelled batch.

How many parcels can I book with Parcel Collect?

The collection page states a maximum of 25 items and suggests discussing a business account when sending more than 20 parcels a week. Check the available booking for your items.

Does collection affect next-day delivery?

Royal Mail says Parcel Collect adds a working day to delivery aims and guarantees. Read the relevant service instructions before promising next-day arrival from a collected order.
