Amazon Flex earnings calculator: count time outside the block

Calculate UK Flex earnings using the accepted block fee, door-to-door time and real costs. Separate the new 55p mileage deduction from money in your account.

In short

  • A model three-hour block at Amazon Flex’s advertised £14 hourly figure gives £42 before costs. If your whole outing takes three hours forty minutes, that becomes £11.45 per hour before costs and tax, rather than £14; the example is arithmetic, not an available block offer.
  • Use your actual accepted fee and elapsed time. Advertised block estimates do not measure every minute you give up or the costs of your own vehicle.
  • HMRC’s simplified vehicle-expense rate for the first 10,000 car or van business miles is 55p for 2026/27. A tax deduction is not a mileage payment from Amazon.
  • Keep pound delivery results separate from euro parcel-packing examples until you know the actual currency and conversion for your own agreement.
  • AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.

A useful earnings calculator needs more than a block fee divided by a block length. It needs to answer the question you are actually asking: how much does this work leave for the whole stretch of time I cannot use for something else? That question matters when you are fitting work around another job, family tasks or a limited evening.

This UK calculation uses Amazon’s public earnings and delivery-type pages and current HMRC guidance, checked on 19 October 2026. It compares a method of measuring delivery work with a method of measuring packing orders from home. It does not assume local block availability, a weekly hours cap, a guaranteed route length or a particular fuel price.

Which three times belong in your calculator?

First record the estimated block duration shown with the offer. Second record the actual working duration. Third record the whole outing, including any time you must spend getting to the collection location and getting back after the work. These figures answer different questions. They should not quietly replace one another when you report a result.

Amazon’s earnings page describes £14–£18 hourly estimates for a standard motorised vehicle, with the estimate linked to location and a block. It says duration and estimated earnings are visible before acceptance, and actual time can differ. Use the actual offer as your input; multiplying an advert by the hours you would like to work creates no booking.

MeasureCalculationWhat it tells you
Offer headlineAccepted block fee ÷ estimated block hoursThe advertised basis of that offer
Actual working-time returnFees actually earned ÷ actual working hoursWhether the estimate matched the task
Personal time returnFees minus your allocated costs, divided by the whole outingWhat the opportunity leaves for the time you give up
The third measure supports a personal choice between side jobs. It does not decide which journeys qualify as business mileage for tax.

Save the offer details and record the timings while you can still distinguish them. If there is a problem with a route or payment, the same record makes your enquiry clearer. Do not insert a hoped-for adjustment into earnings until it is confirmed. The calculator should describe the money and work that actually occurred.

How much does forty extra minutes change the result?

Take a sensitivity example using the endpoints of Amazon’s advertised range, not a claim about a real offer. Multiply each hourly figure by a hypothetical three-hour block. Then add forty minutes of time outside the estimate. Both models assume the resulting fee is earned and there are no further payments. Vehicle costs have not yet been deducted.

Illustrative offer basisThree-hour fee by multiplicationTotal time for this modelReceipts per total hour
£14 per estimated hour£42.003 hours 40 minutes£11.45
£18 per estimated hour£54.003 hours 40 minutes£14.73
Calculated examples, not quoted bookable blocks. Forty extra minutes is a stated assumption, not a measured UK journey average.

The useful finding is that time outside the estimate dilutes both figures. Choosing the higher headline does not remove the need to measure it. For your own calculation, replace the forty minutes with a realistic route from your starting point, plus actual overrun or other necessary time. Then replace the model fee with the offer you can really accept.

You can also reverse the question. With a fixed fee and a target hourly return, the maximum time is fee divided by target. Reduce the fee by your allocated costs first. If the journey cannot fit within that budget, the offer misses your target before personal tax. This test works without guessing anyone else’s earnings or publishing an invented national average.

Do standard and grocery blocks use the same time pattern?

Amazon’s delivery-type page lists standard delivery blocks up to five hours and grocery blocks up to two hours. It also describes Amazon Now blocks up to four hours with e-bikes. These are different delivery types with different pickup locations; do not apply the standard motorised-vehicle earnings estimate indiscriminately to every mode.

Shorter blocks deserve particular attention to the fixed time around them. A journey that is manageable for a longer outing can consume a much larger share of a short one. Compare total time against total fee for each offer separately. Do not assume that two nearby blocks will be available back to back, or that there is no journey between their collection points.

Why is the 55p mileage deduction not your cash cost?

HMRC’s simplified-expenses table now shows 55p per mile for the first 10,000 car or goods-vehicle miles in 2026/27, then 25p. The page distinguishes the earlier 45p rate. These are expense-calculation rules for eligible business mileage. They do not mean Amazon transfers that sum to you, or that your vehicle necessarily costs that exact amount to run.

For example, forty qualifying miles within the first band produce a £22 simplified deduction at 55p. That is a tax-calculation example, not £22 of extra delivery pay and not a claim that every forty-mile outing qualifies. Whether particular travel is business travel and whether this method is available must be checked for your circumstances.

Keep two records: one of actual expenses and money movements for your own profitability comparison, and one of the allowable treatment used for tax. HMRC says simplified mileage replaces the relevant actual vehicle running-cost calculation. Do not deduct a flat mileage amount and the same fuel, repairs and insurance again in a single profit calculation.

A cash record should also avoid making the car look free in a week with no repair bill. Decide how you will allocate maintenance and other ongoing vehicle costs consistently. Use real evidence, not a convenient invented pence-per-mile figure. For the separate cover question, read Amazon Flex insurance costs and obtain a quote that matches your work.

Does weekly payment change the hourly calculation?

Amazon’s earnings page says payments are deposited on Wednesday for deliveries completed during the previous Monday-to-Sunday week. Bank holidays can shift payment to the next business day. This is useful for cash planning, but the deposit date is not an extra hour of paid work or a reason to count the same fee twice.

Match each payment to the work that earned it. If a deposit covers several outings, total the associated fees, costs and hours before calculating your average. A successful block and a disappointing one belong in the same reporting period when both consumed your time. Selecting only your strongest outing produces a poor estimate for choosing future work.

What changes if you pack orders at home instead?

An AirPost sender receives a shop’s stock and packaging, prepares outgoing orders, prints their labels and hands parcels over at a parcel point. You agree a fee by size. The sender workflow explains the arrangement. There is no round of individual home deliveries, but stock work, messages and the drop-off journey still take time.

A separate euro model uses sixteen small parcels at the recommended €2.25 fee. The pricing constants checked on 19 October 2026 give €36.00 before payout commission. One payout of that amount incurs 3%, leaving €34.92 before personal expenses and tax. This quantity illustrates the calculation; it is not a promise of orders.

If all the work for that illustrative batch took two hours, the rate would be €17.46 per hour before costs and tax. You would need to measure the complete task to use it. Keep this in euros: without your actual payment currency and conversion, it cannot establish that packing beats a pound-denominated Flex offer.

The common decision rule is to use the same boundaries around your time. The practical difference is what is available: a bookable block has a stated offer, while a packing opportunity requires a shop agreement and actual orders. For a detailed time record, see parcel packing hourly earnings. Neither opportunity should be ranked using work that has not materialised.

Frequently asked questions

How does an Amazon Flex earnings calculator work?

Start with the actual fee, subtract your allocated costs and divide by the total time you give up. Keep that personal measure separate from the offer’s estimated block-hour figure.

How much is Amazon Flex pay per hour in the UK?

Amazon advertises an estimated range linked to blocks and a standard motorised vehicle. Your own result depends on the accepted fee, actual duration, additional time and costs; the advert is not a take-home wage.

Can I claim 55p a mile and add it to my pay?

No. The HMRC simplified deduction is a tax calculation, subject to the rules. It is not a payment from Amazon or evidence of your exact cash running costs.

When are Amazon Flex earnings paid?

The checked earnings page describes Wednesday deposits for the preceding Monday-to-Sunday delivery period, with bank-holiday timing potentially moving to the next business day.

Is home packing better than a short delivery block?

Compare actual available work in the correct currency using total time and costs. A short block can carry significant travel time; packing has stock and parcel-point tasks and no guaranteed order volume.
