In short

  • For an eBay UK business seller arranging ordinary delivery, choose a tracked service that meets the checkout promise and produces usable delivery evidence; Evri and DPD are worth comparing for qualifying small parcels, while a confirmed Royal Mail product may fit a different handover routine. At an order total of £450 or more, check eBay’s signature requirement and programme exceptions before choosing the label.
  • The £450 threshold includes the item, postage and tax. It is an eBay protection condition, not a courier’s included compensation amount.
  • eBay requires tracking uploaded before the latest estimated delivery date, with the delivery or attempted-delivery event and a matching destination detail.
  • Simple Delivery and the Global Shipping Programme have specific signature exceptions. Do not apply a general own-label checklist without checking which programme the order uses.
  • AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.

A cheap courier label can be a poor choice if it breaks the service promised in your listing or leaves you unable to answer an item-not-received report. This guide concerns UK business sellers comparing their own domestic delivery bookings. It does not rank courier reliability from reviews or claim that AirPost has an automatic eBay order connection. Official eBay policies and the quoted AirPost UK route were checked on 10 October 2026. Programme-specific orders need their own supplied-label instructions.

All three rows are candidates only after the package and service checks. The shortest stated estimate is not a measured reliability ranking, and the cheapest row is not automatically suitable for valuable goods. A generic tracked label does not establish signature confirmation. If the order requires that evidence, choose a booking that explicitly provides it or obtain another quote. Do not infer an optional feature from the carrier’s brand or from a compensation badge.

What delivery evidence does eBay require?

eBay’s seller-protection policy requires a tracking number verifiable on the carrier’s website and uploaded to eBay before the latest estimated delivery date. For successful on-time delivery evidence, it also lists delivered or attempted-delivery status, the event date and a matching destination detail such as the postcode or city/county. Preserve the carrier record and the original order address together.

A postage purchase receipt proves a purchase, while a handover receipt or acceptance event supports a different part of the journey. Neither should be casually described as delivery to the customer. Link the order reference, purchased service and tracking number before dispatch. Then check the first carrier event and the final event separately. This process makes it easier to see whether an issue concerns a parcel still with the packer, a parcel in transit or a completed delivery requiring evidence.

When do I need signature confirmation on eBay?

The eBay signature-confirmation policy sets the eBay.co.uk checkout threshold at £450. For ordinary own-arranged shipping, the comparison uses the total the buyer paid, including postage and tax. The requirement concerns eligibility for the stated item-not-received and payment-dispute protections. It does not mean the parcel is insured for that amount, and it does not replace the other required evidence.

Inspect the actual order total in Seller Hub before buying postage, particularly when several items travel together. Obtain a service with the necessary confirmation and ensure its tracking record can show it. Carrier liability, added cover and eBay protection remain separate matters to verify. Also check the contents exclusions and actual booked terms. A familiar brand name cannot answer whether the purchased service accepts the item or covers its value.

The signature policy expressly says confirmation is not required for Simple Delivery or the Global Shipping Programme under their stated arrangements. Therefore this article’s ordinary own-label requirement must not be treated as a command to replace a programme label. Follow the programme instructions attached to that order. Changing the dispatch method can change the applicable protection, even when the parcel still travels with a carrier you know.

Does a label created on time prove I dispatched on time?

No. eBay’s seller-protection document describes adjustments to the late-delivery rate when a carrier scan shows dispatch within the handling time, or arrival by the latest estimated delivery date. Creating a label is an earlier action than obtaining that scan. Build your courier routine around the actual handover location and its operating hours. A label bought before your cutoff can still sit beside the packing table after the last practical drop-off opportunity.

Ask the person preparing the parcel how and when they will hand it over, and what evidence they retain. Check whether the proposed location accepts the specific label product. Avoid moving the same parcel through several unconfirmed handover attempts. If the first event is missing, investigate the real handover before treating it as a delivery delay. Keep your response to the buyer factual: the label exists, the parcel was handed over, or the carrier has scanned it are three different statements.

How much does the courier choice change my batch cost?

Using the dated AirPost route amounts above, 30 qualifying Evri labels have a euro subtotal of €218.70, versus €264.90 for DPD and €292.80 for the listed Royal Mail option. DPD is €46.20 higher than Evri for that illustrative batch. The amounts include the €0.85 platform fee and exclude the agreed packing charge and materials. AirPost settles in euros; the pound display is approximate.

Use the comparison only for parcels fitting the same displayed format and the required service conditions. It is not an eBay checkout charge or an estimate of claims saved by changing carrier. If signature confirmation or a different size is necessary, obtain a new comparable quote rather than extending the table. A lower transport subtotal is useful only after the service clears your order’s evidence, contents and delivery-promise checks.

For a separate look at combining drop-off and pickup work, read DPD drop-off versus collection. The shipping-software comparison covers rules that select a service. For eBay orders, any software rule still needs to preserve the checkout promise and make the final tracking record available to the seller who must answer the buyer.

What should I do when an eBay buyer says the parcel is missing?

eBay’s Money Back Guarantee guidance says a buyer can ask eBay to step in after 3 business days if the seller has not responded or the resolution is unsatisfactory. It also describes a refund when delivery to the order address or collection cannot be proved. Check the actual request and its deadlines promptly. Waiting for a carrier investigation does not, by itself, answer the platform request.

Open the request, confirm the order’s address and uploaded tracking, and review the latest carrier event. Provide accurate evidence through eBay’s process. Contact the operator that handles the booking when its tracking record is incomplete. Do not promise a particular case outcome merely because a parcel shows a delivered word somewhere. The evidence must correspond to this shipment and destination, and the policy’s conditions still apply. Retain the investigation reference with the order rather than in an unrelated support conversation.

How do I choose a courier before handing orders to a packer?

  1. Read the order’s service promise

Record the selected delivery method, handling deadline, destination and programme status. Confirm that your proposed booking is compatible.

  2. Check the value and parcel

Use the total paid for the signature decision, then verify the finished package and contents against the actual carrier product.

  3. Assign evidence responsibilities

Decide who uploads tracking, retains handover evidence and watches the first scan. Give the packer the original order reference and address.

  4. Keep support with the seller

Make sure the seller can retrieve the carrier record and answer an eBay request within its shown deadline, even when another person prepared the parcel.

With AirPost for shops, you can agree for a sender near the customer market to hold your stock and prepare orders. Keep eBay tracking upload and buyer support explicitly assigned in that arrangement; this guide does not promise an automatic eBay integration. A successful packing trial should produce the correct box, the correct purchased label and the evidence your business account needs to retain.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best courier for eBay UK?

Choose the qualifying service that meets your checkout promise and produces the required evidence. The dated Evri, DPD and Royal Mail rows compare AirPost offers for ordinary small parcels; they do not rank courier reliability.

Can I use my own courier on eBay?

For a seller-arranged booking, ensure it matches the order’s delivery promise and tracking requirements. Check any programme instructions first; replacing a provided label can change the applicable protection.

Does eBay require signature confirmation?

Its UK policy requires it for ordinary own-arranged orders at or above the stated checkout threshold, with specific programme exceptions. Check the total paid and the policy applying to that order.

Is proof of postage enough for item-not-received protection?

A posting receipt is not the same as the delivery evidence listed in eBay’s seller-protection policy. Keep valid tracking, the required event and destination details, plus signature confirmation when applicable.

Does a tracked AirPost quote include eBay seller protection?

No courier quote establishes an eBay case outcome. Choose a suitable product, meet the platform conditions and retain the relevant evidence. AirPost label prices and eBay protection are separate subjects.
