In short
- In Belgium the cheapest option is a pickup point — Mondial Relay at €5.38 for a small parcel, measured on 29 September 2026 — but carrier by carrier the point is not automatically cheaper. For small parcels the point saved €0.75 with bpost and €1.58 with DPD; for a medium parcel bpost to the door (€7.04) was cheaper than bpost to a point (€8.19).
- bpost delivers both ways by the next working day; DPD’s point service was next day and its home service within 4 working days.
- A bpost pickup point holds a parcel for 14 calendar days, a bpost locker and Mondial Relay for 5. After that it goes back to the sender.
- Sensible default: a point for small parcels, bpost home delivery from medium size up, and the door for anything over 10 kg.
- AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.
Belgium is usually filed next to France as a pickup-point country, and at checkout that is right: Belgian shoppers know both the bpost point and the Mondial Relay point. What the rate card shows is less tidy. The point is the cheapest place to start, but the door wins surprisingly often once the parcel gets bigger.
Below are the measured prices for the four carriers on our Belgian rate card, the delivery promise of each, what happens when a parcel is not collected, and a default per parcel size. For the wider picture, see pickup point vs home delivery in Europe.
Is a pickup point cheaper than home delivery in Belgium?
For small parcels, mostly yes; for medium parcels, mostly no. These are domestic Belgian prices from our shipping options for Belgium, measured on 29 September 2026. Each includes our €0.85 platform fee, identical on both sides, so the difference is the carrier's.
| Carrier | Point, small | Door, small | Point, medium | Door, medium | Cheaper for medium |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mondial Relay | €5.38 | — | €6.08 | — | Point only |
| bpost | €6.29 (@bpack) | €7.04 (@home) | €8.19 | €7.04 | Door, by €1.15 |
| DPD | €6.88 (Service point) | €8.46 (Classic B2B) | €6.88 | €8.46 | Point, by €1.58 |
| UPS | €9.60 (Access Point) | €8.79 | €11.90 | €10.79 | Door, by €1.11 |
Two patterns. First, bpost charges the same €7.04 for a small and a medium parcel to the door, while its point price rises with size — so from medium upwards the door is the cheaper bpost product. Second, DPD charges one flat price per form regardless of size, which makes its €6.88 point service the cheapest medium parcel in Belgium after Mondial Relay.
UPS is the outlier in the other direction: its door service was cheaper than its Access Point service at both sizes. If UPS is the carrier your sender uses, the point has no price argument at all.
What about large parcels?
For 10–30 kg the order flips entirely. bpost to the door was €9.99 and DPD €10.56; the only point service at that size, Mondial Relay, was €15.73, and UPS €27.14. A heavy parcel to a point in Belgium costs more and is harder for the customer to carry home.
How fast is each option in Belgium?
| Carrier | To a point | To the door |
|---|---|---|
| bpost | Next working day | Next working day |
| DPD | Next working day | Within 4 working days |
| UPS | Next working day | Next working day |
| Mondial Relay | Within 3 working days | No home service on our card |
Belgium is small, and it shows: three of the four carriers promise next-day delivery. Mondial Relay is the cheap-but-slower choice. DPD is the one to watch: its home service on our card is its B2B product with a four-day promise, so for consumers the DPD point is both cheaper and faster.
What does it cost to ship into Belgium instead?
The domestic carrier rate for the cheapest standard service in Belgium was €4.33 at 2 kg, €4.53 at 5 kg and €5.23 at 10 kg. The same 2 kg parcel sent across the border cost €7.71 from the Netherlands and €7.25 from Germany — roughly €3 more per order before anyone has chosen between point and door.
Those figures are carrier rates without our fee, from the European shipping rates index of 26 September 2026. If you sell into both Belgium and the Netherlands, where the default is the door, shipping to the Netherlands and Belgium without a warehouse covers how one stock can serve both.
What happens when a Belgian delivery fails?
| Situation | What happens | Time the customer has |
|---|---|---|
| bpost pickup point, not collected | Returned to the sender | 14 calendar days |
| bpost parcel locker, not collected | Returned to the sender | 5 calendar days |
| Mondial Relay point or locker, not collected | Returned to the sender | 5 days |
| bpost home, nobody in | Delivery notice with where and when to collect; status by e-mail, Track & Trace or app | Stated on the notice |
The two big networks behave very differently. A bpost point gives your customer two weeks, which is generous; a Mondial Relay point gives five days, which is not. On a price-per-parcel basis Mondial Relay is the cheapest service in Belgium, but every parcel that sits past day five comes back to your sender as a second shipment you pay for.
At the door bpost fails softly: a parcel that finds nobody home is held for collection, and the notice tells the customer where and when. That is why bpost @home works well as a default for larger items — the failure case ends up looking like a point delivery, not a lost order.
Cheapest is not always cheapest
If a few percent of Mondial Relay parcels are not collected within five days, the return shipments can eat the €0.91 it saves against a bpost point. Count your uncollected parcels after a month before you decide which network is really cheaper for you.
Which default should a webshop choose for Belgium?
- Small parcels: a pickup point. Mondial Relay at €5.38 if your customers collect quickly, bpost @bpack at €6.29 if you want the 14-day window.
- Medium parcels: bpost @home at €7.04 or the DPD point at €6.88 — both beat the bpost point.
- Large parcels over 10 kg: bpost @home at €9.99, the cheapest large service we measured.
- Offer the other form at checkout as well, as a choice for the customers who want it.
- UPS Access Point as a default. At both sizes UPS to the door was cheaper.
- DPD home as the fast option. On our card it had the slowest promise in Belgium.
