In short
- Shopify lets you buy and print up to 250 shipping labels together, but the Shipping labels page displays only 100 orders per page. For a UK dispatch batch, confirm the fulfilment location, review the complete selection and match printed documents to shipment references before packing.
- The recent-orders batch action includes unfulfilled orders from the last 14 days. Older outstanding orders require manual selection or addition to a batch.
- Native batches require an eligible active location you manage. A location managed by a fulfilment service does not by itself make your store eligible.
- Packing slips, labels and customs forms can be printed together and collated by order. If you use two printers, preserve that order identity across both outputs.
- AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.
A batch can save repeated clicks, but it also spreads one wrong weight or printer setting across many parcels. Before you send a thermal printer a long PDF, establish which orders are included, which location is dispatching them and whether the labels have already been purchased. This guide follows the official Shopify workflow for a UK shop rather than a third-party CSV app. The help pages, printer-related document options and AirPost fee reference were checked on 14 October 2026. Your own admin and selected carrier still determine which services are available.
Why can you see 100 orders when the batch limit is 250?
Shopify’s bulk-purchase help page gives two different numbers for two different tasks. You can purchase and print up to 250 labels together, while the Shipping labels page shows 100 orders per page. Do not infer the full selection from the visible rows. The documented batch review lets you open the batch and use View all, then deselect labels you do not want. Check the resulting purchase count before accepting it. A page-view limit is not a reason to buy a second set for orders already included.
For an explicitly hypothetical set of 251 eligible shipments, the stated purchase limit requires at least two selections: 250 plus one, or smaller groups of your choice. That is arithmetic, not a recommendation to print the largest possible run. You might deliberately split by material, location or a stable packing task. Give each selection an identifiable name and retain its shipment references. At the end, compare the combined selections with the intended dispatch list so the extra order does not disappear between batches.
| Number or condition | What Shopify documents | Your dispatch check |
|---|---|---|
| 250 labels | Maximum simultaneous bulk purchase and print | Split a larger intended selection deliberately |
| 100 orders per page | Shipping labels page display | Review the complete batch rather than one page |
| 14 days | Window for recent unfulfilled orders in automatic batching | Find older outstanding orders separately |
| Managed location | Eligibility requires an active location you manage | Identify who owns this fulfilment workflow |
| Multiple shipments | A separate packing slip can represent each shipment | Count shipments, not just order numbers |
Which UK orders and locations belong in the selection?
Shopify excludes orders without a valid shipping address, orders containing only items that do not require shipping and orders already fulfilled from bulk label purchasing. Review the exclusions against your outstanding work. A batch that completes without an error can still leave a problematic order outside the selection. Keep an exception list with the reason and next action. Correct an address through the supported workflow before purchasing, rather than printing a label and writing a different destination over it.
The native batch feature requires an active location you manage in a country supported for admin label purchasing. Shopify says a fulfilment-service-managed location does not itself make the store eligible. If you dispatch from multiple locations, choose the relevant one in the documented flow. The bulk help page lists Evri, DPD, Royal Mail and Yodel for UK locations at the time checked. That list is not a promise that every service suits every package; inspect the actual option offered for the closed parcel and destination.
Could the recent-orders action miss an older unpaid or delayed order?
The recent-orders batch action uses unfulfilled orders from the last 14 days. Shopify describes manual creation or addition for older orders. Review outstanding fulfilments outside that window, particularly when stock has been delayed or a customer agreed a later dispatch. Do not use the date-named batch as evidence that every order up to that date is included. Its name identifies a group; your selection and exception list establish the work that is actually covered.
Keep paid status, fulfilment readiness and dispatch promise distinct when reviewing orders. The label-purchase flow describes paid orders requiring shipping or orders ready to fulfil, while the batch feature has its own recent-order filter. Read the selection you actually made rather than combining those descriptions into a new rule. If an older order is now ready, include it manually and retain its original reference. Do not create a replacement order simply to make it appear as recent work.
How should you review weights and services before buying?
Shopify allows bulk edits to package, total weight, service and insurance on desktop. Apply a shared value only to parcels that really share it. A group of orders with one product name can still have different quantities, boxes or destinations. Review the packed parcel rather than trusting a product-only weight. When one shipment needs a different package or service, remove it from the shared edit and handle it explicitly. A thermal printer will faithfully print a wrong booking; it cannot weigh the box.
Define the eligible group
Choose location and fulfilments, then review the complete selection. Retain an exception list for invalid addresses, older outstanding work and orders being handled elsewhere.
Check the physical parcels
Verify package and total weight against the closed boxes. Use shared edits only for verified matches. Review service and destination before label purchase.
Purchase once and retain references
Confirm the final number and buy the intended labels. Keep their shipment references with the order selection. A later print retry should start from these existing purchases.
Print the required documents
Select the documents and review their sizes. Send the correct output to the appropriate printer. Inspect a complete label and its associated paperwork before continuing the physical run.
Reconcile parcels and exceptions
Match each label to the correct contents and shipment. Compare the finished group with the original selection and record anything still outstanding.
Can packing slips and thermal labels stay in the same order?
Shopify documents printing labels together with packing slips and customs forms. Its collated-printing announcement describes grouping documents by order, with thermal, A4 and Letter sizes supported. Use that grouping where the selected output suits your equipment. Do not shrink a detailed packing slip until it fits merely because your label printer is ready. Check whether product quantities and references remain readable. A packing slip belongs with the contents; the transport label must remain available on the outside for the carrier.
With separate paper and thermal printers, create an explicit matching step. The first sheet from one machine is not guaranteed to correspond operationally to the first sticker left beside the other after retries or interruptions. Match shipment and order references. Shopify also explains that packing slips describe the specific shipment and that one order can have separate slips for multiple shipments. That is why order count, slip count and label count can differ without an error. Understand the intended split before you try to force the totals to match.
If you need new hardware, the existing guide to a label printer for a small UK business covers equipment selection. This batch procedure should work with the checked printer you already use. Preserve its correct output settings instead of changing the global format for one unusual document. For a broader multi-store workflow, see shipping software across multiple stores. Store identity remains necessary when two shops reuse similar order numbers.
What happens if you hand the packing to AirPost instead?
Through AirPost for shops, you can arrange stock storage, order packing and parcel drop-off with a sender. The existing Shopify connection forwards paid orders and returns tracking according to its configured workflow. That route is different from buying your own native Shopify Shipping batch. Decide who handles each fulfilment before purchasing anything. Do not send the same orders through two independent label-purchase paths simply because both interfaces show them. Clarify stock location and responsibility as part of the handover.
For the hypothetical 251-shipment comparison, the AirPost platform component is €213.35 at €0.85 per shipment, using the constant checked on 14 October 2026. Splitting the work into two print groups does not change that per-shipment calculation. This is a euro reference, not a live GBP quote. Actual carrier charges, the agreed sender fee and packaging costs are additional. Shopify’s technical batch limit is therefore not an AirPost minimum volume, and a second print group is not a second platform subscription.
Before the first handover, test one agreed order path and verify where the label and tracking appear. Shopify fulfilment status and a carrier’s acceptance scan represent different events; printing documents does not establish physical collection. Keep the dispatch exception list until you have checked the parcels that actually left. For a printer jam, return to the purchased-label selection and identify the missing physical prints. For a wrong booking, use the responsible provider’s correction process. Those two interruptions need different responses even when they happen during the same batch.
Frequently asked questions
How do I bulk print shipping labels in Shopify?
Select eligible fulfilments, review location, package and service, then purchase the labels. From Shipping labels, select the intended orders and Print documents, checking document sizes before printing. Retain the selected shipment references.
How many Shopify shipping labels can I print at once?
The current bulk-purchase documentation specifies up to 250. The Shipping labels page displays 100 orders per page, which is a separate limit. Review the complete selection before assuming all intended work is included.
Can I batch print older Shopify orders?
The recent-orders action has a 14-day unfulfilled-order window. Shopify documents manual selection or addition for older work. Check older outstanding orders separately instead of relying solely on the recent group.
Can Shopify print packing slips with shipping labels?
Yes, the official instructions support printing them together, and collated output groups documents by order. Verify the actual output and use shipment references if documents go to different printers.
Does an outsourced fulfilment location qualify for native batches?
Shopify says eligibility requires a supported active location you manage. A service-managed location does not itself establish eligibility. Confirm whether native Shopify Shipping or your fulfilment service owns the label purchase.
