In short
- Shopify Fulfillment Network currently requires fulfilment from the United States, even if your business is based in Europe. Check 3 separate places before joining: your business address, the warehouse receiving your stock and the country your customer lives in.
- The network app connects you to logistics partners; a partner listing does not establish European warehouse eligibility through that app.
- Flexport product sync runs every four hours. A newly created variant can need a manual catalog sync before you see it there.
- Free installation covers the software entry point. Receiving, storage and order fulfilment are separate partner charges.
- AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.
A search for Shopify fulfillment Europe can lead you to a familiar Shopify app, a global logistics company and a warehouse map. Those three things can look like confirmation that your stock will stay in Europe. Before sending a replenishment shipment, read the onboarding restriction attached to the actual route you are buying. The address on the inbound instructions matters more than the language of the sales page.
Can a European Shopify business use Fulfillment Network?
Yes, with an important condition. Shopify’s network onboarding checklist allows a business based outside the US, but says the app is available only to businesses fulfilling out of the US. You are responsible for getting inventory into that country. This is useful for a European brand building a US customer base; it does not establish a domestic European fulfilment route.
Write down the market you are trying to serve before choosing the integration. If your purpose is to place goods near European customers, ask for the receiving warehouse address and the dispatch country. If your purpose is to enter the American market, ask how the inbound shipment will be received and when the resulting stock becomes available to orders. These are different purchasing decisions, even when the shop and products are identical.
Do not infer that a logistics provider has no European services because this app has a US restriction. A provider can sell another service through another agreement or app. Ask it to identify which offer you are considering and confirm the relevant warehouse in writing. Conversely, a provider’s European office or international website does not remove the restriction in Shopify’s network onboarding.
| Your intended operation | Question to resolve before installation | Evidence to keep |
|---|---|---|
| European business selling from US stock | Will this partner receive and fulfil my products through SFN? | US inbound address and approved product list |
| European stock serving European customers | Which separate service supports this warehouse and Shopify connection? | Dispatch country and the specific integration name |
| US stock shipping to European customers | How is international shipping enabled for this account? | Service mapping and international setup confirmation |
| A shop serving both markets | Which stock pool receives each destination’s orders? | Routing rules and a checked order from each pool |
Does the partner list guarantee the same service everywhere?
Shopify’s logistics partner documentation distinguishes Flexport, which connects directly in the admin, from other partners that connect through apps. It also says setup, requirements and pricing differ by partner. Treat the network as a way to find and connect a provider. You still need the provider to accept your particular products and operating arrangement.
Send the provider your actual product information rather than a broad category such as accessories. Include each variant’s identifier, packed size, weight, packaging requirements and any special handling. Ask which information is needed to approve receiving. Keep the approval with the quotation. An app successfully importing a product title is a software result; it is not confirmation that a warehouse has agreed to store that item.
When comparing partners, use the same shipment specification. Ask them to price the same receiving unit, stock arrangement, order contents and destination. Otherwise one quote may include handling that another leaves for later. Request the conditions attached to the estimate as well as the amount. A missing receiving or storage line deserves a question, rather than an assumption that the work is included.
Why might a new product be missing from Flexport?
Shopify’s Flexport setup guide says products sync every four hours after connection. You can use Sync Catalog to include recent additions. The same guide requires active products with titles, a SKU for every variant, unique variant SKUs and no spaces or special characters in those SKUs. Check these conditions before treating a missing variant as a failed warehouse intake.
Separate catalog visibility from physical availability. A synced record gives the provider an identifier for an item. It does not prove that the carton arrived, the contents were counted or the units are ready to pick. For a launch, keep a short reconciliation list with the Shopify variant, provider catalog record, inbound shipment reference and received quantity. Only close a row when the corresponding checks agree.
If you change a SKU to meet the requirements, check its effect on supplier paperwork and labels before sending the goods. The receiving team must be able to match the physical item to the new identifier. Keep an old-to-new mapping during the transition. Avoid changing identifiers halfway through a replenishment shipment without telling the provider which version appears on the carton and which version appears in the catalog.
Which settings determine where an order actually leaves from?
Flexport setup creates a Shopify location called SFN - Flexport. The fulfilment settings guide requires shipping-option names in Flexport to match the customer-facing Shopify rate names exactly. It also describes enabling orders outside the US and setting location priority. For a draft order, Shopify specifically tells you to select the intended fulfilment location manually.
Review the names your customer sees alongside the service your provider uses. A friendly label such as Standard is not a service agreement by itself. Record the matching provider option, origin and destination for that label. If you rename a checkout rate later, revisit the mapping. This makes a small copy change something your operations team can check before it affects a paid order.
Use a destination-specific acceptance check. Inspect the assigned location, contents, shipping option and tracking return for an order you are permitted to process. For a shop with its own backup stock, include a case where the provider does not hold every requested variant. Decide who handles that exception before opening the market. The broader checkout setup is covered in Shopify Markets shipping in Europe.
How do you compare a free app with paid physical fulfilment?
Shopify’s network billing page says installing the app is free, while partners charge for accepting, storing and fulfilling inventory. Build your comparison from the physical operations. Include inbound transport and receiving, stock holding, picking, packaging, dispatch and the destination route. Keep taxes and any specialist advice separate where they apply; this article does not calculate your cross-border tax position.
For a European alternative, AirPost’s published small-parcel recommendation is €2.25 for the sender and €0.85 for the platform. Together that is €3.10 for one shipment before its carrier label and any separately supplied materials. Two separately executed small-parcel shipments have €6.20 in that handling calculation. These constants were checked on 14 October 2026; the sender’s actual fee is agreed with them.
That calculation is a component comparison, not a warehouse quote or a promise that a European route costs less. Add the label shown for your actual origin, destination, weight and service. Also include getting the stock to its holder and any return movement. AirPost’s copy describes stock placed with a sender, with no storage subscription or minimum. Check current availability on the local fulfilment page before allocating stock.
Choose on fit as well as price. A provider that accepts the goods, serves the intended dispatch country and returns useful order information can be worth a different cost structure. A cheap integration that serves the wrong stock location does not solve your operational problem. For the separate AirPost connection, read the fulfilment app workflow; its paid-order forwarding should be assessed on its own terms.
Frequently asked questions
Is Shopify Fulfillment Network available for a shop based in Europe?
The current Shopify checklist allows a business based outside the US, provided it fulfils from US inventory. A European business address and a European dispatch address are separate questions. Obtain the receiving address before you send stock.
Does Shopify Fulfillment Network UK mean a British warehouse?
The search phrase does not establish that. Shopify’s current app onboarding specifies fulfilment out of the US. Ask a provider about its separate UK service and integration if you need stock to remain in Britain.
Why is my new variant not visible in Flexport?
Start with the four-hour catalog sync and use Sync Catalog if needed. Then check the active product, title and unique SKU for every variant. The documented SKU rules exclude spaces and special characters. Confirm physical receiving separately.
Is the Shopify Fulfillment Network app free?
Installation is free according to Shopify. Physical receiving, storage and fulfilment are partner services with their own charges. Request those cost lines for your actual stock and shipment specification before comparing offers.
Can US inventory be shipped to a European customer?
Shopify documents an international shipping setting for Flexport. Confirm that your product, destination and chosen service are accepted. International delivery from US stock still differs from dispatching a domestic parcel from stock already in Europe.
