Shopify shipping confirmation email not sending?

In short

  • When a Shopify shipping confirmation email is not sending, check 3 separate things: whether the relevant fulfilment was completed, whether its customer notification was enabled, and whether the order has the correct email address. A missing message does not by itself mean the parcel has not shipped.
  • Shopify distinguishes the order confirmation, shipping confirmation and later shipping update. Find the missing event before changing a template.
  • The manual fulfilment notification option is available only when you have the customer’s email address.
  • A tracking number added later can generate a shipping update. Check the chosen carrier and the customer notification option before saving.
  • AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.

Your UK customer received a receipt but has no dispatch email. The parcel may already be at an Evri ParcelShop, or the order may still be waiting for fulfilment. Those are different problems. Start with the order and the actual shipping record, then investigate the message. Buying another label or marking unrelated items fulfilled to produce an email can create a much larger problem than the original missing notification.

Which Shopify email is the customer actually missing?

Shopify’s customer notification documentation associates an order confirmation with placing an order and a shipping confirmation with fulfilment. A customer saying “I never got my confirmation” may mean either one. Ask whether they received the purchase receipt and whether they can see any dispatch message. Record the missing stage instead of labelling every report as a delivery failure.

Open the relevant order and identify the fulfilment containing the items the customer expects. Shopify documents that separate fulfilments are completed separately and can produce more than one shipping confirmation for one order. With a split order, an email for the first parcel is not evidence that the second parcel has been sent. Your reply should name the items or part of the order concerned, using the shipping record that belongs to that part.

Was the customer notification selected when the order was fulfilled?

In its individual fulfilment instructions, Shopify shows an optional customer notification when completing the fulfilment. It says this option is available only with a customer email address. The notification guidance also describes suppressing a shipping confirmation during fulfilment. A completed fulfilment therefore does not, on its own, tell you that an email was requested for that action.

If an app or external service controls fulfilment, review that route rather than assuming the manual checkbox was used. Ask what event returned to Shopify and which notification setting applied to that order. Shopify provides a notification option in its app-fulfilment process, but the behaviour of a particular integration still needs checking. Do not invent a setting inside your shipping app because a similarly named control exists in the Shopify manual workflow.

Do not cancel and recreate a legitimate fulfilment simply to make a message appear. Shopify explains that fulfilments already at the status you are trying to set cannot be marked with that status again. Work on the missing communication using the available notification or tracking process. Before any operation that changes fulfilment, establish whether it affects stock, purchased labels or the external service. An email issue is a poor reason to disturb an otherwise correct dispatch record.

Can I send tracking information after fulfilment?

Yes. Shopify documents adding tracking to an already fulfilled order and optionally notifying the customer. In the relevant fulfilled section, add or edit the tracking details, verify the carrier, keep the customer notification enabled when you intend to send it, then save. This is a shipping update associated with tracking information. It is not a new parcel and should not be described as a replacement dispatch in your support reply.

Shopify may infer the carrier from the number format. Check that inference, particularly if your UK shop uses more than one service. If the carrier is unsupported or you choose Other, the documentation allows a manually entered tracking URL. Enter the full link for that actual shipment. A correct number with a link to a different carrier can leave the customer unable to see useful information even when the email itself arrives.

Why does the email arrive without a working order status link?

Shopify’s order status update guidance warns that customised order confirmation, shipping confirmation or shipping update templates can need changes to include the order status link. A branded design can look complete while a link has been removed. Test the actual notification that customers receive rather than a screenshot of its header or a preview of an unrelated email.

Check a message containing a real tracking record in a controlled test order. Confirm that the link opens the expected order or carrier and that the items match. A general template preview can help review appearance, but it cannot prove that the shipping data for a particular customer is present. If you customise templates yourself, follow Shopify’s documented variables and instructions. Keep a copy of the prior template so that your team can understand any later regression.

For a split order, check each fulfilment’s links individually. Do not put a single generic carrier homepage in place of a missing order status link and assume the customer can reconstruct the shipment. While you repair the template, provide the verified tracking details privately in your customer reply. Ask the person maintaining the template to fix the exact notification that failed. An order receipt working correctly does not establish that the shipping update template is correct.

What if Shopify sends it but the customer cannot find it?

Shopify advises recipients who do not receive notifications to check spam or junk and, if the issue continues, provide an alternative address with a different email provider. First verify the address recorded for this order. A typo or a phone-only contact explains a different failure from a template problem. Request a correction through your established private support channel rather than collecting addresses in public comments.

When several recipients report trouble, check the sender email configuration. Shopify’s email setup documentation describes authenticating a third-party sender domain using the records it supplies for SPF and DKIM. Inspect the authentication status in the store settings and follow the instructions for your domain provider. This improves the legitimacy of messages sent on your behalf; it does not guarantee that every recipient will see every message in their main inbox.

Do not solve delivery information problems by adding the customer to a marketing campaign. They need the transaction details for their existing order. Sending the same dispatch notice repeatedly without checking the address or trigger can create noise while leaving the original cause untouched. Give them the verified link now, identify the failed part of the process and record what you changed. If another provider handles notifications, check that provider’s evidence as well.

Are Shopify emails and Shop tracking notifications the same thing?

Shopify states that merchants cannot edit or deactivate order and tracking notifications sent through the Shop app; customers control them in their Shop settings. Its notification guidance also says that out-for-delivery and delivered emails depend on corresponding tracking events from the carrier or fulfilment app. A missing Shop push, a missing shipping email and an absent carrier scan are therefore separate observations. Ask which channel the customer actually checked.

Your reply can say: “We have checked the shipping record for your order. Here is the tracking link for the existing parcel. We are also checking why the dispatch email did not reach the address on the order.” Add the actual last confirmed shipping step when you have it. This is an example response, not a customer quotation. Do not describe an administrative fulfilment event as proof that a driver has received the box.

Should a missing email make me buy another shipping label?

The AirPost UK → UK options retrieved on 10 October 2026 displayed an Evri ParcelShop small-parcel label at ≈ £6.18, including the platform fee and before the agreed packing payment. If you accidentally buy a second label at the same displayed reference, the two label purchases total ≈ £12.36. These are approximate GBP displays, not a guaranteed checkout quotation; the sender’s preparation and materials are additional.

That calculation exposes the wrong remedy: supplying a correct email link is not another shipping operation. Check whether the original label is valid and whether the parcel was handed over before buying anything else. The domestic rate is for the service and format shown in the options page, not a cost for delivering an email. Do not add the platform fee a second time to that displayed reference or promise that an unused duplicate label will be refunded.

The AirPost copy describes returning the tracking number to the order in your shop. With AirPost for online shops, use that record to verify the number your Shopify notification should contain; then test the store’s own notification behaviour. The wider Shopify fulfilment workflow without a warehouse covers preparation and routing. This troubleshooting task finishes when the customer has usable information and you have identified why the message failed.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Shopify shipping confirmation email not sending?

Check the relevant fulfilment, its notification choice and the email address attached to the order. Then distinguish a message not requested from one missing in the inbox. A carrier scan and an email notification are different events.

Can Shopify send a shipping update after an order is fulfilled?

Yes. The documented tracking workflow allows you to add tracking to a fulfilled order and notify the customer. Verify the carrier and full tracking URL, then ensure the notification option matches your intention.

Why did a customer receive one shipping email but not another?

An order can contain separate fulfilments, each completed separately. Check which items and shipment each message concerns. A confirmation for one part does not establish that every part was dispatched or notified.

Does fulfilled mean the carrier has collected the parcel?

It records a Shopify fulfilment action. Shopify can mark an order fulfilled when its shipping label is purchased and printed. Verify physical handover and the carrier history before telling the customer the parcel is moving.

Can I switch off the customer’s Shop app tracking alerts?

Shopify says merchants cannot deactivate or edit those Shop notifications. The customer controls them in their Shop settings. Diagnose an app alert separately from your store’s shipping email.
