In short
- A 5 kg parcel to Austria from the Netherlands costs €9.38 in the 6 October 2026 snapshot, including platform costs and excluding packing. Domestic Austrian dispatch starts at €8.48 for a regular small parcel. The table below compares 5 kg and 10 kg limits by origin and service; weigh and measure the packed box before choosing.
- The small example uses up to 5 kg and 35 × 25 × 15 cm; the medium example uses up to 10 kg and 45 × 35 × 30 cm. Carrier-specific locker limits can be smaller.
- Compare collection point, locker and home delivery separately. Prices and delivery estimates apply to the selected service, not every parcel on that route.
- For a shipment from Great Britain, check import costs and declarations separately from the label. Currency conversions on the rate card are approximate.
- For repeated orders from local stock, use shipping to Austria without a warehouse to plan storage and replenishment. Those are separate costs from this parcel-price comparison.
- AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.
If you want to send a parcel to Austria, the cheapest route depends on where the box starts, and the gap between origins is smaller than for most countries. Austrian domestic parcels are not cheap, while Dutch and German carriers reach Austria at close to domestic prices. Below are the measured prices from five countries plus the UK, the domestic Austrian prices they compete with, and the delivery times the carriers state.

Use the same fee basis throughout a comparison. The European shipping rates index is a carrier-only snapshot, while this page uses shipping-option prices including platform costs. The unverified flat Österreichische Post amount is excluded here; a carrier-only minimum does not establish the cheapest bookable option for your box.

Posting to Austria from the UK: what changes
From United Kingdom, the 6 October snapshot showed ≈ £15.01 · Evri to the door for a small parcel and ≈ £15.66 · DPD to the door for a medium parcel. The GBP figures are approximate conversions shown by the rate card; import costs and declarations are separate from the label.
- Import VAT on every parcel. The EU removed the €22 exemption, so all imported goods are subject to VAT. For consignments up to €150 you can collect it at checkout and pay it through the Import One Stop Shop (IOSS); otherwise the customer pays it on delivery.
- Possibly a €3 customs duty per item type. Since 1 July 2026 the EU charges a temporary €3 duty on parcels worth up to €150 from outside the EU, per tariff classification in the parcel. Under the Commission’s guidance it applies to all IOSS imports; goods of UK preferential origin declared without IOSS can fall outside it.
- A customs declaration with every parcel: goods description, value and tariff code.
How UK shops avoid those charges for EU customers — IOSS, or stock already inside the EU — is in sell to the EU without customs charges.
Sending a parcel within Austria: what it costs
| Carrier | Service | Small parcel | Medium parcel | Stated delivery time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GLS | To the door | €8.48 | €9.61 | Tomorrow |
| UPS | To the door | €12.55 | €14.25 | Tomorrow |
The snapshot showed GLS at €8.48 for a small parcel and €9.61 for a medium one; UPS was €12.55 and €14.25. Österreichische Post displayed the same amount across all formats, so we do not use it to establish the cheapest domestic option. Check the live service before buying a label.
Door or post office: what Austrian customers get
In most countries the pickup point is the cheap option. In Austria it is not: the Post charges the same for the door as for a post office the customer picks. From abroad it works the other way round — from the Netherlands and Belgium the cheapest service was DPD to a pickup point, and DPD to the door from the Netherlands cost €5.52 more. What that means for your checkout, and what happens when a door delivery fails, is in pickup point vs home delivery in Austria.
What is the cheapest way to send a parcel to Austria?
- From the Netherlands, use DPD to a pickup point. It was the cheapest cross-border service in this comparison, and flat up to 10 kg.
- From Germany, use UPS to an Access Point rather than DHL. Same stated delivery time, roughly half the price for a small parcel.
- From Belgium, Poland or the UK, compare per lane. The cheapest carrier was DPD from Belgium and Poland, and Evri or DPD from the UK.
- Ship from inside Austria when the cross-border price is far above the domestic one, or when you need next-day delivery and domestic returns.
These service prices include the €0.85 platform fee; packing by a sender is separate. For repeated orders from local stock, see shipping to Austria without a warehouse. Compare storage, replenishment and any tax administration in that setup rather than treating a domestic label as the whole fulfilment cost.
When local stock in Austria makes sense and when it does not — VAT, returns and delivery times included — is in ship to Austria without an Austrian warehouse.
