In short

  • At the reference fee of €2.25 for a small parcel, 30 parcels a month give €65.47 after withdrawal commission. This is before tax and personal costs, with no guaranteed order volume.
  • 10, 30 and 60 mean the whole month, not every week.
  • Reference fees are not a measured Irish market average; your agreement decides.
  • Count the complete preparation and drop-off journey.
  • AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.

A price per box does not show the whole value of a task. A small parcel dropped off during a regular errand differs from a large carton requiring a separate trip. We compare modest monthly batches for a first trial in Ireland. The broad explanation is in how much packing parcels can earn. This article narrows the question to 10, 30 or 60 parcels in a month and separates the period from any weekly calculator. Use confirmed orders and the agreed payment, rather than treating a platform illustration as locally available work.

After withdrawal commission; before tax, packaging and journeys. Each row uses one format and reference fee throughout. No order volume is guaranteed.

When a shop agrees a different fee, use that fee. The table does not replace your arrangement. The estimation function uses a weekly volume and four weeks; these examples therefore supply the monthly number divided by four. Thirty is not multiplied again as though it means thirty each week. Actual calendars and demand vary. Check the period before comparing adverts, because identical numbers can describe very different commitments. A larger theoretical total does not establish that the corresponding amount of work exists, or that your storage and schedule can handle it.

A large parcel can require more protection, space and handling, as well as a different drop-off location. Its higher reference fee does not prove a better hourly result. Check safety and the service requirements. For a mixed batch, calculate each format using its real quantity and agreed fee. Applying the highest fee to all parcels exaggerates the forecast and hides the mix of work. Consider how long you can reserve space for slow-moving products too. Storage remains occupied even when the short task of sealing a box happens only occasionally.

What work are you agreeing to do for the shop?

You agree with an online shop to store some of its products and prepare its orders. When stock arrives, compare product references, variants and quantities with the list. Keep it dry, organised and separate from household belongings. For an accepted order, select the correct item, protect it, print the shipping label and hand the parcel to the specified carrier. The goods remain the shop's property. You are not buying stock to qualify for work or lending your bank account to move someone else's money. Each parcel should relate to an identifiable order and a clear agreement.

Set the stock quantity, packaging arrangements and deadlines before accepting delivery. A spare shelf may suit small items; a damp shed does not become suitable simply because it is large. Decline goods you cannot store or lift safely. Ask what happens with missing items, damaged products, returns and the end of the partnership. A shop's sales forecast is not a monthly earnings commitment. Completing a profile can make you discoverable, but it does not create demand in your area. There may be no suitable shop looking for help, and an existing partnership can have quiet periods.

Where can you hand over parcels in Ireland?

An Post describes buying a Click & Post label online, printing it and dropping the parcel at a post office. For work through a shop, follow the service already specified on the label rather than buying duplicate postage. Check the location, opening times and accepted format before agreeing deadlines. A collection point for another carrier does not necessarily take An Post parcels, or vice versa. Include the return journey and any queue when recording your time. Keep posting evidence with the order. The nearest point is useful only if it accepts the actual service you need.

When is the payment available to withdraw?

The withdrawal commission is 3%. Earnings become available 3 days after the carrier's first scan, rather than after creating a label. Available in the platform balance does not mean already credited to your bank. The figures after commission are still before your taxes and personal operating expenses. Shipping charges and the platform fee charged to the shop are different from your payment for preparing its orders. The retail value of goods you hold is not your income either. Keep stock and money records separate so that a valuable shelf of products is not mistaken for money you have earned.

Record orders, agreed earnings, commissions, adjustments and bank withdrawals separately. A withdrawal can combine several payments that were recorded earlier. Do not count the work and the transfer as two new receipts. A remaining platform balance does not explain the month's whole result. Keep receipts for packaging supplies and notes about journeys. Buying something for the household does not automatically turn it into a business expense. If a printer has mixed use, explain that when checking the tax treatment rather than assuming its entire cost qualifies. Your own records should show what each payment represents.

How do you test the first small batch?

  1. Agree the actual order

Ask for product references, quantities, packing instructions and dispatch deadlines. Accept only stock that fits your space and schedule. Confirm who supplies boxes and protection before buying materials.

  2. Check the workstation

Separate product variants and test label printing. Check item, quantity and destination before sealing the parcel. If an instruction is missing, contact the shop rather than substituting a similar product yourself.

  3. Hand over and review

Use the carrier on the label, retain the posting evidence and record the complete time spent. Review the real batch before offering more storage or a daily capacity you have not tested.

Does Ireland have a €5,000 tax-free allowance for this?

No. Revenue uses thresholds of taxable non-PAYE income exceeding €5,000 or gross non-PAYE income exceeding €30,000 for mandatory self-assessment registration. Its guide also lists self-employed people among those who should register. These are reporting rules, not a tax-free allowance for packing work. The platform figure after commission is not automatically your taxable non-PAYE income. Check your status and all relevant income with Revenue. Where its conditions apply, smaller non-PAYE amounts can be declared through myAccount and Form 12; being below a threshold does not mean ignoring the income.

Which mistakes affect the result most?

Check incoming stock while you can still document the outer packaging and the condition of items. Report shortages and damage before dispatching to a customer. Remove old labels from reused boxes. Use the recipient's details to fulfil the order, without posting photographs of address labels publicly. Include stock counting, tidying, administration and corrections when measuring the work. A short product check can prevent a return that wipes out the advantage of sealing a box quickly. If references are unclear, resolve that with the shop before repeating the same process across more orders.

Agree how unused products return to the shop when the partnership changes. Payment per parcel does not by itself establish insurance cover for everything stored at home. Check current terms and relevant limits when the potential loss matters. Keep the agreement and evidence of the task together. Budget for essential household expenses using confirmed income. Do not rely on a future stream of orders that has not become work yet. Preparing orders can fit around other commitments, but flexibility does not remove dispatch deadlines or make every kind of product suitable for a domestic workspace.

How should you include time and expenses?

Measure the complete batch: stock checks, picking, printing, protection, counting and drop-off. Add administration and corrections. Share the journey across parcels actually handed over, rather than a shop's future forecast. Divide your result after operating expenses by all the hours involved. This is your own comparison measure, not an hourly wage promised by AirPost. There is no universal packing speed in this example because products, distance, packaging and experience change. Closing a carton quickly does not remove a long dedicated journey or a queue at the counter.

Repeating 30 small parcels for twelve identical months would give €785.64 after commission in this illustration. That is arithmetic, not a guaranteed annual income. A real first batch tells you more than a long projection. If materials arrive late or product references are ambiguous, resolve that with the shop before increasing volume. More stock does not make a confusing process reliable. A good previous month does not confirm the next one. A different partnership needs a fresh review of products, deadlines, payment, storage and the time you can actually provide.

  • The real fee and responsibility for packaging costs are agreed.
  • The drop-off point accepts the label's service and parcel format.
  • Monthly quantities and the complete journey are recorded.
  • Revenue obligations are checked separately from commission.
  • Equipment is purchased for a stream of orders that is still hypothetical.

The local starting context is in packing orders from home in Ireland. Prepare the workspace with what you need to pack parcels. There is no fixed payment for waiting with a completed profile. Start with a batch that fits your circumstances, record the result and use it for the next decision. Even a small extra activity deserves records that distinguish earnings, withdrawals, work costs and private spending. Do not assume household purchases belong to the activity simply because a few parcels were prepared at home.

Frequently asked questions

How much do 30 small parcels pay in Ireland?

At the reference fee €2.25, this example gives €65.47 after commission, before tax and costs. The agreed fee can differ and a shop may not offer that volume. Use confirmed orders and the real payment terms.

Are the 60 parcels a weekly amount?

No, they cover the whole month. Adapt the period when using a weekly calculator. Entering a monthly number as a weekly number overstates work and earnings relative to the batch actually agreed.

Do large parcels always earn more for the time spent?

No. Higher payment can accompany extra handling, protection, storage and travel. Check the format, location and safety. Do not choose large cartons solely because they have the biggest number in the table.

Is €5,000 automatically tax-free in Ireland?

No. Revenue's non-PAYE thresholds concern registration and reporting, not an extra tax-free allowance. Check your status, all relevant income and how to declare it. Your after-commission platform amount is not automatically the taxable figure.

Is this an hourly wage guarantee?

No. Payment relates to completed orders. You can divide your real result by all the hours to compare activities. That does not promise speed, local demand or a fixed number of orders available to you.

Check the terms and practical arrangements before agreeing stock and dispatch work with a shop.
