In short

  • In Spain the pickup point saves little: measured on 29 September 2026, Correos to a post office cost €5.12 for a small parcel against €5.49 to the door, a gap of €0.37, and SEUR saved €0.63. With UPS the door was €1.31 cheaper than the point.
  • Correos is the cheapest carrier either way, for small and medium parcels. SEUR costs more but promises next-day delivery to both point and door.
  • Because the price gap is small, the holding period decides: a Correos office keeps a parcel 15 days, a Citypaq or SEUR locker only 5.
  • Sensible default: Correos to the door for most orders, with a post office or SEUR point offered as a choice. For 10–30 kg, the door is cheaper than the point.
  • AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.

In France the pickup point is a price decision: the point is several euros cheaper and customers expect it. Spain is different. Spain has pickup shops, post offices and lockers, but the carriers barely charge less for them, and for some services the door is actually cheaper. That turns the question around: not "how much do I save with a point?" but "what do I lose with the door?".

This article gives the measured prices for the five carriers on our Spanish rate card, their delivery promises, the rules for lockers and post offices, and a default per parcel size. For the pan-European version, see pickup point vs home delivery in Europe.

How much does a pickup point save in Spain?

Very little. These are domestic Spanish prices from our shipping options for Spain, measured on 29 September 2026. They include our €0.85 platform fee on both sides, so the gap is the carrier's own.

CarrierPoint, smallDoor, smallGapPoint, mediumDoor, medium

UPS€8.75 (Access Point)€7.44−€1.31€9.40€8.49

DHL—€7.99 (Parcel)——€8.25

For a medium parcel the Correos gap shrinks to €0.08 — effectively the same price. And Correos to the door, at €5.49, is still cheaper than every other carrier’s pickup point. That is the core of the Spanish rate card: Correos is so much cheaper than the rest that its door beats their points.

CTT and DHL appear only as home delivery on our Spanish card. CTT was competitive for small parcels at €7.83 but doubled to €16.64 for medium ones; DHL stayed almost flat at €8.25. For shops that also sell into Portugal, where CTT is the national post, see shipping to Portugal without a Portuguese warehouse.

And for heavy parcels?

Above 10 kg the point becomes the expensive option. Correos to the door cost €15.52 for a 10–30 kg parcel, Correos to a post office €19.43. DHL to the door was €15.45 and UPS €32.30. Nobody should carry 20 kg home from a post office when the door is €3.91 cheaper.

How fast is each option in Spain?

CarrierTo a pointTo the door
SEURNext dayNext day
UPSNext dayNext day
DHL—Next day
CTT—Within 2 working days
CorreosWithin 3 working daysWithin 3 working days
Delivery promise as listed on our Spanish rate card, 29 September 2026. Correos itself states 48–72 hours for Paquete Estándar on the mainland, with extra days for the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla.

Here the trade-off is price against speed, not point against door. Correos is the cheapest and the slowest; SEUR costs €1.38 more for a small parcel to a point and gets there a day or two sooner. The point or door choice changes neither price nor speed much with the same carrier.

Post office, pickup shop or locker: what are the rules?

Spain has three kinds of "not at the door": the Correos post office, the shop-based pickup point (SEUR Pickup and others), and lockers such as Correos Citypaq and SEUR lockers. The holding periods differ a lot.

Where the parcel waitsHow longWhat else to know
Correos office (chosen at checkout)15 daysUp to two arrival notices by app, e-mail or SMS
Correos office after a failed home delivery15 daysPaquete Estándar includes two delivery attempts first
Correos Citypaq locker5 calendar daysOpen at any hour
SEUR locker5 daysNotice on arrival, reminder on day 3
From Correos’ Paquete Estándar page and Citypaq article (April 2026), and SEUR’s own blog. Contract customers of Correos can extend the office period; see sources.

On our rate card lockers are not listed as a separate product: the point services a sender books are the Correos office service and SEUR Shop2Shop. Lockers are worth knowing about anyway, because a customer who is never home may ask for one — and a locker gives the customer a third of the time a post office does.

What happens when a Spanish delivery fails?

  • Door, nobody home (Correos): two attempts, then an arrival notice and 15 days at the nearest office. The parcel is not lost; it becomes an office pickup.
  • Office, not collected: after 15 days the parcel goes back to the sender. With local stock that is your sender in Spain, and the return is a second shipment you pay for.
  • Locker, not collected: 5 days. This is the fastest route back to the sender, and the one to warn customers about in your shipping e-mail.

Where the door is the safer default

Because Correos home delivery costs only €0.37 more than a post office and includes two attempts plus 15 days at the office, the door in Spain is close to a free upgrade. You buy the customer a better experience and, if they are out, the parcel ends up at a post office anyway.

Which default should a webshop choose for Spain?

  • Default: Correos to the door. Cheapest home service, barely more than the office, and a soft failure mode.
  • Offer the Correos office or a SEUR point as a choice at checkout, for customers who are never home.
  • SEUR when you promise next-day delivery; the point and door cost within €0.63 of each other.
  • Parcels over 10 kg: Correos or DHL to the door, both around €15.50.
  • UPS Access Point as a saving. With UPS the door was cheaper at both sizes.
  • CTT for medium parcels. At €16.64 it was twice the price of DHL or Correos.

The domestic carrier rate in Spain, without our fee, was €3.82 at 2 kg, €4.27 at 5 kg and €5.66 at 10 kg — below France at every weight, and below Belgium up to 5 kg. The same 2 kg parcel from the Netherlands cost €11.94, from Germany €9.25 (see the European shipping rates index, 26 September 2026). Cross-border, the point-or-door gap is noise next to the border itself; the full picture is in shipping to Spain without a Spanish warehouse.

How does this work with AirPost in Spain?

With local fulfilment through AirPost, a verified sender in Spain holds a batch of your stock and ships each order as a domestic Spanish parcel, at the prices in the table above. You pay the label, the fee you agree with your sender, and our €0.85 platform fee per parcel.

  1. Choose a sender in Spain

Filter by parcel size and price on /en/senders. Every sender is identity-checked, and the full customer address is only visible after they claim an order.

  2. Set point or door per product

For example Correos home for most items, SEUR for the ones you sell as next-day.

  3. Let the orders run

Orders reach your sender by hand or from Shopify; the tracking number goes back to you and your customer.

  4. Handle returns locally

Uncollected parcels return to your sender in Spain. A return is reported with five photos, you approve it, and the sender gets a return fee — see returns without a warehouse.
