Shipping to Italy is priced very differently depending on where the parcel starts. Shipping to Italy from the UK: what changes
From United Kingdom, the 6 October snapshot showed ≈ £16.01 · DPD to the door for a small parcel and ≈ £16.01 · DPD to the door for a medium parcel. The GBP figures are approximate conversions shown by the rate card; import costs and declarations are separate from the label.
- Import VAT on everything. The EU removed the €22 exemption, so all imported goods are subject to VAT. For consignments up to €150 you can collect it at checkout and pay it through the Import One Stop Shop (IOSS); otherwise the customer pays it on delivery.
- Possibly a €3 customs duty per item type. Since 1 July 2026 the EU charges a temporary €3 duty on low-value parcels worth up to €150 imported from outside the EU, per tariff classification in the parcel, declared and paid by the seller or importer.
- A customs declaration. Every parcel needs one, with the goods description, value and tariff code.

The InPost locker is the cheapest Italian parcel on the list, but its compartments are at most 8.8 cm high: fine for clothing, books and flat goods, not for a shoebox. Livigno and other addresses that are not a normal Italian parcel
Livigno, in the Alps near the Swiss border, is part of the EU but outside its customs territory and VAT area, according to the European Commission. A parcel there is not a normal Italian delivery, even when it leaves from Milan: expect customs paperwork and a different tax treatment. San Marino and Vatican City are separate states, not Italian addresses. Decide in advance whether your checkout accepts these postcodes.
What is the cheapest way to send a parcel to Italy?
- Use a pickup point or locker where the lane has one. On four of the six lanes, the cheapest service was a point or locker.
- Compare carriers per lane. The cheapest carrier into Italy was different from almost every origin: InPost from Spain, Mondial Relay from France, UPS from Germany, Austria and the Netherlands, DPD from the UK.
- Ship from inside Italy. A domestic Poste Italiane or InPost parcel was the cheapest option of all.
