In short
- A 5 kg parcel to Portugal from the Netherlands costs €16.40 in the 6 October 2026 snapshot, including platform costs and excluding packing. Domestic Portuguese dispatch starts at €5.02 for a regular small parcel. The table below compares 5 kg and 10 kg limits by origin and service; weigh and measure the packed box before choosing.
- The small example uses up to 5 kg and 35 × 25 × 15 cm; the medium example uses up to 10 kg and 45 × 35 × 30 cm. Carrier-specific locker limits can be smaller.
- Compare collection point, locker and home delivery separately. Prices and delivery estimates apply to the selected service, not every parcel on that route.
- For a shipment from Great Britain, check import costs and declarations separately from the label. Currency conversions on the rate card are approximate.
- For repeated orders from local stock, use shipping to Portugal without a warehouse to plan storage and replenishment. Those are separate costs from this parcel-price comparison.
- AirPost is a peer-to-peer fulfilment network: online shops have their orders packed and dropped at a parcel point by verified people near their customers, who earn a fee per parcel from home. No warehouse, no minimum order volume.

Below are the measured prices from five countries plus the UK, the carriers behind them, the domestic Portuguese prices they compete with, and what changes for Madeira and the Azores.

- Import VAT on every parcel. The EU removed the €22 exemption. For consignments up to €150 you can collect VAT at checkout and pay it through IOSS; otherwise the customer pays it on delivery.
- Possibly a €3 customs duty per item type. Since 1 July 2026 the EU charges a temporary €3 duty on parcels worth up to €150 from outside the EU, per tariff classification. Under the Commission’s guidance it applies to all IOSS imports; goods of UK preferential origin declared without IOSS can fall outside it.
- A customs declaration with every parcel.
How UK shops avoid those charges for EU customers is in sell to the EU without customs charges.
Sending a parcel within Portugal
| Carrier | Service | Small parcel | Medium parcel | Stated delivery time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CTT | To the door | €5.02 | €5.50 | Within 2 working days |
| DPD | To the door | €6.12 | €6.12 | Within 3 working days |
| DPD | To a point or locker | €8.73 | €24.45 | Tomorrow |
In Portugal the door was the cheap option: CTT to the door cost €5.02, DPD to a parcel shop €8.73. On our rate card that is the opposite of Spain, where the post office was cheaper than the door. A shop that ships within Portugal can make home delivery its default.
Parcels to Madeira and the Azores
Madeira and the Azores are part of Portugal and of the EU, so a parcel there from another EU country needs no customs declaration. They are islands, though, and delivery takes longer. Portuguese postcodes on both start with 9. CTT Expresso publishes these delivery times for its two-day e-segue service from mainland Portugal:
| Destination | From mainland Portugal (working days) |
|---|---|
| Mainland Portugal | 2 |
| Madeira (Funchal and the rest of the island) | 5 to 6 |
| Porto Santo | 6 to 7 |
| Azores: São Miguel | 6 to 9 |
| Azores: Santa Maria and Terceira | 7 to 10 |
| Azores: Faial, Pico, Graciosa and São Jorge | 7 to 12 |
| Azores: Flores and Corvo | 8 to 15 |
The prices in this article are for mainland Portugal. We found no island surcharge published by the carriers above, so we give no amount. Before you promise mainland prices and delivery times at checkout, check the carrier’s price for a postcode starting with 9, and say in your delivery terms that the islands take longer.
