Finland sits at the far end of the EU parcel network. Two things stand out. Domestic parcels in Finland are not cheap: more than in Denmark and several times the price in Poland or the Baltic states. A worked month for a German shop
Take a shop in Germany that sells 40 parcels of about 2 kg a month to Finland. Shipped cross-border, the labels cost €442.00. From a sender in Finland, label plus fulfilment comes to about €413.60. The difference is €28.40 a month.
That does not pay for much. Out of it you still fund the bulk shipment that brings stock to Finland and the Finnish VAT registration that comes with holding stock there. On label price alone, a German shop is better off shipping cross-border until Finnish volume is well above this.

Why the parcel locker matters in Finland
Finnish customers pick up their parcels. A pakettiautomaatti — a parcel locker in a supermarket, shopping centre or station — or a service point is the normal destination, and the prices show it. On our rate card, Posti’s Kotipaketti to the door costs more than twice its Postipaketti to a point or locker for the same size. Matkahuolto’s home delivery costs more than one and a half times its Lähellä-paketti to a locker or service point.
From Germany, the cross-border services we list to Finland are mostly door delivery; only UPS offers a service to an Access Point. Which carriers ship domestically in Finland?
- Posti — the Finnish postal company. Postipaketti to a point or locker up to 10 kg, Kotipaketti to the door, and Pikkupaketti up to 2 kg to the door or mailbox.
- Matkahuolto — Lähellä-paketti to a parcel locker or service point, up to 30 kg at a service point, and Jakopaketti to the door.
- DSV (formerly DB Schenker) — Noutopistepaketti to a pickup point or locker up to 10 kg. The cheapest measured option up to 5 kg.

How long does delivery take?
On 26 September 2026 our shipping options page listed Posti’s Postipaketti and Matkahuolto’s services at "within 2 working days" inside Finland, and DSV and Posti’s home delivery at "within 3 working days". From Germany the listed cross-border services ranged from 3 to 6 working days. These are the carriers’ own indications, not guarantees, so do not promise a day at checkout that the carrier does not.
Returns from Finnish customers
EU consumers can withdraw from an online purchase within 14 days without giving a reason. From Germany, a Finnish return comes back cross-border; on a low-priced product that can cost more than the product is worth, and many shops refund and write the item off.

VAT, and the Åland exception
Shipping from another EU country
Cross-border sales to consumers in other EU countries can stay taxed in your own country until they pass €10,000 a year across all EU countries together. Above that you charge Finnish VAT on Finnish orders, usually reported through the One Stop Shop (OSS) in your home country. The Finnish Tax Administration (Vero) lists the standard rate as 25.5%; set your Finnish prices with that in mind.
Stock in Finland means a Finnish VAT registration
Once your goods sit in Finland, selling from that stock is a Finnish domestic sale. That usually needs a Finnish VAT registration with Vero, and OSS does not cover it. Arrange it with your accountant before the batch moves. Detail in VAT when you store stock in another EU country.
Orders to Åland
The Åland Islands belong to Finland but sit outside the EU VAT area. Vero treats goods moving between Åland and the EU VAT area as exports and imports, and the distance-selling rules do not apply — not even from mainland Finland. An order to Åland therefore needs customs paperwork whether it leaves from Germany or from your sender in Finland. Either exclude Åland at checkout or check with your accountant how you want to handle it.
